Great place to visit, its free although a donation would be nice. Very informative, I've been 5 times taken all the family on various visits and each time I learn something. Not suitable for disabled or very young. Also no photographic or electronic items allowed down mine for safety reasons.

Absolutely a great place to visit. To see how the miners work and go down a lift shaft and shown around the pit. Tour guide was just amazing (x miner) and went into detail of the history of the mine and how the miners worked. Great day out 👍👍👍👍👍👍

A M A Z I N G! I love that it used to be a working coal pit. I love that the guides are the men who used to work the pit and I love the canaries in the cages which were used to keep all the workers safe. I love that the canteen was still being used as a canteen but now for all the visitors not only the staff. I love that there is no entry fee, only the cost of parking your car next door, but donations are appreciated. I love the history and the guided tour underground and learning about the pit ponies amongst other things... you MUST visit.

Excellent. Just excellent. The guided tour of the mine was fascinating as was the rest of the mining area, workshops, baths and a great cuppa at the end.
The guide was fantastic, hilarious and answered any questions. A brilliant place to visit.
It is all free (paid by the Welsh heritage foundation) but there is a donation box as the guides are not allowed to take tips. So make sure you throw in a couple of pounds at the end.
I live in Newport and didn't realise what a treasure we had right on our doorstep.

Went during the 6 weeks holiday with my partner and 7 year old daughter. Was very busy, waited 45 minutes for the mine tour. We all really enjoyed the tour, the staff had lots of information and stories to share. Particularly liked it when they turned all the lights off to see how dark it was. Gift shop has lots of choice and reasonably priced Great experience, get there early to avoid queue's.

Great underground tours, the tour guides are ex miners which makes all the difference (they know what they are taking about). The exhibits on the surface are excellent, it's worth the walk up to see the pithead baths. And it's all free (except the parking)

Nice if you can spare 2-3 hours. The underground tour of the actual coal mines is a must (think the last tour starts at 3:30pm and lasts around 40 mins). Ample parking available. There is a play area for small kids (less than 4 yrs) and a so-so cafe.

I haven't expected much from visiting coalmine, but that underground tour was really amazing. Tour guides are ex mine workers and they do such an amazing job by making it fun, existing and informative.

Please note that kids under 1m are not allowed underground.

Superb free museum, just £3 to park all day Unfortunately it was pouring down and we couldn't explore all of the site but very impressed that you got a free underground tour with an ex-miner, very interesting and you go down to the pit in the actual cage that they used to use. Good gift shop and cafes. King coal was an excellent exhibition/film as well. My boys enjoyed the whole unique experience.
