Bishopston, Cotham, Redland Energy Group Description

Bishopston, Cotham and Redland (BCR) Energy Group promotes energy efficiency in the home and other energy-saving initiatives in the community.

Retrofitting our large, draughty houses to reduce energy loss will improve comfort and save money, as well as help the planet. It sounds like a “no brainer”, but many people are daunted by the complexity and range of possibilities as well as the initial cost, so an important aim of the group is to get local people together to meet, learn and share information.

On a practical front, we're promoting and assisting with the CHEESE project (https://cheeseproject. co. uk /), which performs internal thermal imaging surveys to identify where heat is being lost in the home and to advise on remedial action to save on energy bills and /or make cold homes warmer. After pilot surveys in BCR, Easton and Lawrence Weston in 2015-2016, the service is gradually expanding across the city. The project won the 'Volunteers for Energy Award' at the Bristol Green Capital Partnership Green Volunteers' Awards 2016.

We send out a regular newsletter about the latest energy-saving initiatives, e. g. for the home, in transport, renewable energy generation, reducing waste etc. We also hold periodic meetings to exchange information and hear from speakers on topics of interest to members.
