The Black Boy Inn (or just Black Boy) in the Royal Town of Caernarfon in Gwynedd, Wales is a hotel and public house which is thought to date back to 1522, making it one of the oldest surviving inns in North Wales. It is within the medieval walls of Caernarfon, a few hundred yards from Caernarfon Castle.
Our Head Chef Mark Jones has a wealth of experience and excels in international cuisine.
He started in the Stables locally here at the tender age of 15.
With the recent addition of Ty Dre, there are now 39 high quality rooms whose residents will want to try our cuisine and we continually assess and review our resident’s feedback.

What a fantastic lunch , service was awesome ( I can recommend the steak and ale pie , ) WARNING.. I paid buy card and it does not give an option to leave a tip , I so wanted to leave a tip , I didn’t have any cash on me at all , I felt awful. If the service staff read this thank you for such a superb lunch
Well what can I say. The food was fantastic. I had fish and chips and the fish was so big it could have swam off with me. Will be going back before we go home. Lovely. ��
We were surprised by how good it was. We stayed in the Town House and what a room, and enormous bed and telly, the bathroom was out of this world. We have eaten here many times so knew the food was good as was the beer but the twelve ounce burger took some shifting. Very good food with generous proportions.
We loved this place. Arrived on Friday afternoon for 1 night. We have a large pick up which was too big for the on site car park but the lovely lady on reception arranged for us to park at the castle for free. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The room was truly amazing and quirky. Great selection of food and drink. Location is perfect. Breakfast was outstanding - great choice and all cooked fresh to order. We can't recommend highly enough. If you are ever in the area it's well worth a visit.
We always use this place to eat and drink when we are in Caernarvon. Food is always good, although they are not prepared to deviate from the menu. Great selection of drinks, staff always happy!
Stayed here 3 times now for weekends. Amazing rooms, staff, food.,drink and atmosphere. Sharon is hilarious, can’t wait for our next stay!!
Really based on 2 visits as we came back for dinner the following day!
First the drink...a quality local real ale as good as it gets.
Then the food...we don't eat meat but love seafood...a good choice of well cooked ingredients with portion sizes that are large.
Overall an experience we'll be happy to repeat.
Lovely hotel, great rooms with everything you need. Fantastic and friendly staff. We had a meal in the restaurant the evening on arrival and the breakfast the next morning and couldn't fault either. Would highly recommend this hotel. Fantastic location also.
Loved this place.. pricy for n wales.. but if tou don't need help to stagger out after the large... Amazingly cooked portions you are a better than me Gunga Din. Awesome... Enjoy the mussels in the courtyard!
Had a lovely family meal Easter Sunday and food was delicious. Staff very friendly and spot on with service. Recommend the lamb shanks, gravy to die for! My grandkids enjoyed their children’s meals too. Lovely, warm and cosy atmosphere.
Great historic pub, great beer, friendly staff. The food was traditional pub, but very well done. We stayed in their separate B&B just around the corner. Rooms are large and of the highest standard. Obviously just been completed as they are immaculate. Massive beds, thoroughly clean. The bathrooms are top speck, free standing eggshell bath in ours and an Olympic sized walk-in shower.

Come here last night and tonight for food and drink and really enjoyed. Staff are lovely and gin is great! I ordered chips tonight and actually got a good portion and my server liked tweed suits like me �
Called in before a visit to the castle, we had Sunday lunch 2 course menu. Prawn cocktail and mixed meat. The service was fast and the food was awesome!. A must visit if you're ever in Caernarfon.
Arrived Friday for one night and were able to get in our room early - room, facilities, food were fabulous and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. It was a great night away and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it

Excellent pub with good food, friendly staff and good beer.
A nice traditional style pub/restaurant. Great atmosphere. However when ordering the food we were overcharged slightly on 1 of our two meals.
This was rectified when the waitress came to confirm our order.
The young waiter neglected to bring out any cutlery with our meal, a bit amused by this.
Our meals were very good, I had the giant Yorkshire pudding and my wife the pancakes with mushrooms. Large portion sizes and plenty of meat and veg.
Overall I would recommend a visit.
