This week's upgrade: more storage!
This shop rack arrived as a parcel of three. Two single layer black ones, one green one with four rows. They were going in a skip. Made a very nice hammer rack for the work bench. Now I can keep it clear of debris. More space to play in.......😏
Five years ago.....!
Annealing a freshly pierced piece of copper, ready to forge the ends by hammering them out over the bigger of our anvils. Pretty sure I have gone though a box-load of sawblades, making these 'seaweed' settings!
It's a new technique to me....cross your fingers for me.... I just hope they work.
Well here we go.....first of a series.
This is a flat worked section of a mermaid crown, with the second and third pictures showing my 'choosing table'. I rearrange bits and pieces until I think it looks right.....then try and figure how the heck I'm going to fix it all together.
... I have a few pieces to make first though, that have been outstanding waaaay too long. I'll pick them up where I left off, next week. Injury and impossibility made me put them away in storage, and I'm looking forward to cracking some of the problems that I had with them. If youre feeling generous, cross your fingers for me and wish me luck......? I'm not sure I have the answers to any of this.

Unpolished, still needing a tweak. I love silver when it has this white sheen on it.....but it's difficult to keep without marking it.
Well, after fiddling with the leaves to find the right placement, I've soldered together all the components, ready to polish and give to a friend as a wedding gift. I've never made this type of thing before; it's a new line I want to branch out into. Once it cools down, I'll pickle it in acid to clean the flux away, and then polish it.

I'm humming to myself happily in the kitchen, preparing for tomorrow's class, 'Drawing for the terrified'.
It's for complete beginners - the aim is to have fun, unravel some mysteries, and show a few short cuts to making a start at drawing.
I have some drawing games set up, cakes are baked, just need to set some pencils/charcoal/surprise materials out and I'm done.
Look at that workshop! It's total chaos, and I'm too busy to tidy up! The Christmas rush is upon us - and I'm busy making for several galleries.
I just hope I'll have enough stock for our own Open Studio here at the Blue Earthworm studio on the 25th and 26th of November......but who needs sleep, right?
... On the Sunday I'm being joined by Helen Melvin of Fiery felts - who makes by hand the sumptuous scarves dyed with traditional plants grown in Helen's own garden.
Barbara Larkin is here with some wonderful paintings: its time to treat yourself to a truly spectacular picture. I have one - and would rush into a burning house to save it.
Alexandra Symons designs has a showcase with the most beautifully crafted jewellery.....made of silver and porcelain, and will be here on Sunday to take commissions.
Eva Roberts has a stand for her bowls, her enamel work and a plethora of cleverly made and very affordable pieces.
And my son Ryan is showing his photographs, some ready framed, some awaiting your choice....and his catalogue of spectacular award winning shots (I had to get that bit in. I'm his mother 😏) to order from.
And I'll have copper and silver jewellery, embellished with tumbled glass, gemstones, Swarovski crystals, and vintage beads.
There'll be tea, coffee and FREE HOMEMADE CAKE which comes with the hearty recommendation of every guest we had here at the Helfa Gelf Open Studio event in September. Do come .
