Bodhi Movement Description

We all want something different from our bodies, whether it is a training goal, preparation for a marathon or expedition, being pain-free from the stresses that work and life throw our way or keeping enjoyment in the day to day activities that we love.

You know what that means for your body, so you will have a great idea already of what the next step is for your well-being and recovery.

We view our treatments as a journey, leading you onto the road of greater body awareness. We are here to advise, support and to travel with you on your path.


By taking a look at you as a whole we can start to piece together where your posture, movement restrictions, lifestyle and past problems are playing a part in your current body constraints.

Once a full consultation has been completed we will move forward with a unique treatment specifically for your body and the outcome which you are working towards. Treatments use a blend of remedial and sports massage, muscle activation, soft tissue therapy, kinesiotaping, rehabilitation and strengthening work to get the right results for you.

2 Top Tips for Twists:
1- It is very important is to elongate the spine when we twist; a slumped-over posture significantly limits spinal rotation.
2- The second important point to remember is that each section of the spine has a different rotational mobility.
... The cervical (neck) vertebrae, for example, are the most mobile in twisting.
Because the 12 thoracic (midback) vertebrae have ribs attached, they can't twist as freely as the neck vertebrae.
And because of the orientation of the lumbar (lower spine) facet joints, the rotation of these five vertebrae is the most limited.
So to ensure that you don't overtwist in the more mobile parts of your spine, begin your seated twist by bringing your awareness into your lower back and beginning the twist from there. Let the twist gradually unfold up your spine, as though you were walking up a spiral staircase, so that each vertebra participates in the twist.
If instead you twist quickly and without awareness, your neck will likely do most of the twisting, and whole sections of your spine can remain "stuck" and unmoving.

Rotation and Twist Week:
Unfortunately, many people lose full spinal rotation in the course of living a sedentary lifestyle. Some losses can occur if joints fuse due to trauma, surgery, or arthritis, but most range of motion loss comes from the shortening of soft tissues. If you don't lengthen the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia (connective tissues) to their full length at least a few times a week, they will gradually shorten and limit the nearby joint's mobility.
In... the case of twisting, the limitation is usually in soft tissues around the spine, abdomen, rib cage, and hips. If you regularly practice yoga twists, there are some clear benefits which translate into everyday - for example every time we turn, to look as someone calls us from behind, reaching for our seat belt, etc. Rotation is also a main facet of many sports such as tennis, kayaking, or golf.
If we habitually use bad rotational mechanics in the actions we perform every day, the body will start to break down - think disc damage- and cause fatigue and pain.

As someone with osteoarthritis in my facet joins, my lower back had little movement and was painful at times. Also I had a lack of core strength. I was apprehensive that that I wouldn't be capable of doing the class.
Now I look forward to going to my yoga class once a week and really don't like it if I'm unable to attend. My weekly yoga class works on my back in a good way and builds up my core strength. The secondary benefits for me are improved flexibility and strength gene...rally plus a sense of well-being. With the added benefit of a good night's sleep afterwards. ​ The one best result has been greater flexibility in my lower back which gives me the confidence to do other forms of exercise such as running.

Small change no. 2: Breathe Deeply
"Both busy lifestyles and sedentary environments have conditioned us to 'forget' about breathing. While we don't need to be reminded to breathe, we do need to remind ourselves to breathe deeply. Our respiratory muscles and lung capacities decrease over time and leave us with weakened muscles, poor posture and feeling of stress; undermining our overall health and also affecting the way we hold ourselves"
