One of the joys of searching for items to share with you all is discovering writers you've never encountered before ! So... on International Women's Day I'd like to share a new encounter with you... this poem by rupi kaur.... Freedom of Speech you tell me to quiet down cause my opinions make me less beautiful but i was not made with a fire in my belly... so i could be put out i was not made with a lightness in my tongue so i could be easy to swallow i was made heavy half blade and half silk difficult to forget but not easy for the mind to follow

On the 65th anniversary of Dylan Thomas's death, I'd like to share the poem that "made Thomas famous ", as the renowned scholar William Tindall wrote in his book, "A Reader's Guide to Dylan Thomas " . Written in 1933 when Thomas was only 19, it was subsequently published in his 1934 poetry collection. " 18 Poems" and is an evocative and powerful poem encompassing the universal themes of life and death. I hope you enjoy reading it. I'm also very excited to be able to say that Booklovers Tours will be launching two new Dylan Thomas Tours in the next week, so please keep an eye on our website .....www.bookloverstours.co.uk. "Rain" was written in 1916 whilst Thomas was at training camp. Less than a year later in April 1917, Thomas was killed at the Battle of Arras giving added poignancy to this, one of his best loved poems.

On this beautiful Autumn day, it seemed apt to share this evocative poem by Robert Frost. Frost became the most successful of the Dymock Poets in his lifetime, receiving no less than 4 Pulitzer Prizes and even being honoured twice by the Senate. Whilst living in Dymock he developed a close friendship with Edward Thomas and one of his most famous poems “The Road Not Taken“ was intended as “ a mild satire on the chronic vacillating habits …..” of his friend.
Join us on our Dymock Poets Tour to find out more about the Dymock Poets and their lives in the Gloucestershire village.
