The Last Word...
First seen as a cocktail in print in 1951, this cocktail was well-known to have been served in the 1930's... and some state as far back as 1916... it was rediscovered in an old book and offered by bartender Murray Stenson of Zig Zag Café in 2004, where it has since become a cult hit across the world.
A little sweet, a little sour... a surprising palate cleanser...

The 'Margarita' may have debated origins... from the brandy-based Mexican drink 'Daisy' (Margarita is Mexican for Daisy), to the story of a Texan bartender who named the drink after the singer Peggy (Margaret) Lee...
It is known that it was first printed in 1953 in Esquire magazine with tequila as its primary alcohol and has since been made with either tequila, vodka and on occasions both!
Ours is vodka-based, with the spirit infused in-house with butterfly pea flower, to gi...ve it a deep purple hue which helps to create its distinctive layer...

We now have an alcohol licence...
So, from tomorrow - we will be offering many extra drinks to the menu... bottled beers, craft ale, ciders, alcohol-free drinks, wine, prosecco, spirits... plus MANY 'old-school' cocktails, gins, tonics, flavoured-tonics... all available from 11.00am, 7 days a week 🥳
... Details of the cocktails will follow over the next week or so, with another exciting announcement following on Monday...

Did you know?
Our counter contains over 100,000 coffee beans of various varieties and roasts... all (well, most... one or two got away!) individually glued to a bespoke Iroko counter, designed in-house by us.
Glueing the beans took three of us around 18 hours to complete (there are a few designs in the top made from the different coloured beans), before we applied the final resin coats...

A lot of people have asked about our wall map... spanning over 4m wide it depicts the Talbot Green area as it looked in 1965.
Based on an ordnance survey map dated '64-65 it spans from just north of the old works in Coedcae Lane in the west of the map to Coedcaerau-bach on the road to Rhiwsaeson in the east.
The map shows the leisure centre as an outdoor recreational ground, the fields that would later become Southgate and Penygawsi... and the fields that would be later ac...quired and eventually house 'Home World' which was closed in 1999 and lay derelict until Tesco acquired the land in 2003.
It has changed a bit!
The map was intended to be a conversation piece to link the older and younger generations...
Hearing the stories and memories from all generations is both enlightening and fascinating :)
