Breathing Space - Pilates Description

Hi I'm Jess, a UK trained physiotherapist and Australian trained Pilates instructor. I started my career in the NHS where I worked for 4 years in a variety of settings before I moved to Australia, undertook my Australian physiotherapy and Pilates institute (APPI) Pilates training (including antenatal /postnatal training) and continued to work in private practice whilst being a mum. I have a passion for women's health, especially during the child bearing years and am hoping to be able to offer more pregnancy related services later this year (2017) including ante /postnatal physiotherapy and aromatherapy massage.

Until then a little information on the APPI style of Modified Pilates. . . . . .
This style of Pilates is taught by a fully qualified physiotherapist who has done extensive training. It is used in the rehabilitation setting for people who have had pain and injuries or require specialist Physiotherapy attention, it an also be taught as a repertoire of exercises. Pilates is a unique method of restoring strength, flexibility and function.

Pilates will teach you:

* Neutral spine and pelvis alignment and activation of the key stabilising muscles
* Correct ribcage /thoracic alignment
* Lateral breathing
* Shoulder girdle stabilisation
* Deep neck muscle retraining to control neck and head movement

The exercises include movements that improve spinal mobility, flexibility of the trunk and lower limb muscle groups, body awareness and postural awareness.

Postural alignment and body awareness through gentle floor based (Matwork), sitting and standing exercises make this class suitable for most people, the fit, the unfit, those with chronic low back pain, ante natal, post natal, and the elderly.
Exercises can be modified to suit your individual requirements. These classes aim to teach movement control and correct patterns of movement which may be causing you pain or increasing your risk of pain and injury.

APPI Pilates can be taught on a 1: 1 basis or in a group class. Both the 1: 1 and the classes last for 1 hour .
The group classes are small and contain no more than 10-12 clients to safeguard individual correction and instruction. The classes are pre-bookable 6 week blocks and run through term time with some drop in classes held during school holidays.
