We've stayed at Brecon Retreat twice, once in the lodge and once in the house.
They're both utterly gorgeous, so much luxury and really homely and so very dog friendly. It's a great base to explore the Beacons, or just relax in front of the log burner and in the hot tub.
We already want to go back (I'm eyeing up a Birthday trip!)
Helen is possibly the nicest host, and so helpful with sharing ideas around the area.

We've recently returned from a midweek break. I didn't want to leave. Beautiful, tranquil and picturesque settings. Gorgeous, luxurious, spotless living space - my dream home. The most comfortable bed ever and loads of little extras like toilteries, robes, slippers, a TELESCOPE - with a handy idiot guide! And a lush welcome basket for us AND the dogs - who were made to feel right at home, theirown beds and throws on the sofa so cuddles were allowed. Topped off by a warm friendly welcome from Helen - nothing is too much trouble for this lady, so lovely. Not to mention beauty treatments AND munching of the most gorgeous babies. We will be back definitely.
We stayed here in October half term. What a gorgeous house, we stayed in the larger one with a fabulous hot tub and a games room in the main house with a log burner, as well as a separate games shack in the garden with the biggest TV ever, another log burner and pac man games machine! The owner greeted us after we had our Waitrose food delivery (couldn't believe they found us here tbh!) with a bottle of Pawsecco for our cocker spaniel, they definitely love dogs here hence why we booked it!
It is a spotless house, home from home, has everything you need for a chilled time away from the rat race of life. The sound of the stream was soothing,the hot tub was lush,they provide luxury robes and slippers, the bathrooms are amazing (had a fab soak in the huge bath).
We loved it and we know our doggy friends would love it too.
We stayed here for 3 nights as a family of 7 including our new born baby boy and our dog for a New Year's Eve break. We stayed in the main house and it was absolutely fantastic! Helen provided us with everything we needed including a dog crate, a baby bath, two baby seats, a lovely travel cot, beautiful hampers on arrival (for us and the dog!)and much more. Helen even greeted us with a bottle of champagne to enjoy on N.Y.E! We loved the games room and the hot tub. The house is absolutely beautiful and we have booked to go again in summer and also for new year again! We can't wait! Thank you Helen! οΏ½
We stayed for a long weekend this bank holiday, we like a dog friendly short break once - twice a year, first time staying in Brecon & we loved it! The lodge was wonderful! Such a lovely break from our hectic busy lives! Perfect place to relax & unwind & not to far from Pen y Fan & Waterfall Country which we visited during our stay! we will definitely be back! loved the chillout playlist on Spotify with the Bose! :) I can even listen to it now I'm sat at my desk back at work, wishing was back at Swn Y Nant!!
We spent our first ever Christmas away from home here last year, it was simply fabulous!! Stunning house with everything you could possibly need. Kids had a great time! Christmas Day morning we spent in the hot tub with a Buckβs Fizz, perfect!!

Helen was a fantastic host, we were greeted with a gorgeous hamper and a bottle of fizz! We were even lucky enough to get snow during our stay!
Would love to go back in the summer and be able to make the most of the garden which was as equally gorgeous.

We have just returned from a week after staying in Swn Yr Afon (Mill House) and what a place! It is set in a quiet area but only a 10 minute drive to Brecon if you need anything. There are plenty of walks from the doorstep and details of all of these are kept in a folder provided on arrival. Our Labrador loved the river running alongside the garden and went in for a daily dip. There was also some dog agility equipment in the garden which we made use of. Helen provided a welcome pack for both dogs and humans with some lovely touches including a dog tag in case your furry friend decided to go for an extra solo exploration. The hot tub was amazing and in perfect working order which made coming back from those long walks in the beacons ever more relaxing. The house itself was fully stocked with every utensil you could want and Sky was put to good use as we settled in every night and watched a different movie. We didn't use the games/movie cabin much however, if there were a few of you staying this could be a real asset. We found the TV so good in the main house we didn't need it. Helen was always available if we had any questions and she even helped us shift our booking so we could arrive a night earlier than expected.
If you want a garden and can afford paying a little extra, I would advise you to book Swn Yr Afon. We didn't need the three extra bedrooms but the house was gorgeous and we are so happy we booked it.
I cannot recommend this property enough and I'm looking forward to booking again for 2018.

We had one of our best ever holiday breaks at Brecon Retreat!! Everything was fantastic including the weather! Mollie the dog just loved the house and fantastic walks straight from the door - all info on routes clearly set out! Hot tub was a big hit! We would love to return!! οΏ½
We had 4 wonderful nights in such a lovely setting. Helen was so friendly and helpful with the snow. My two dogs loved their hamper and memory foam beds. All the little touches made it really special. Highly recommend and will certainly be back x
We decided to stay at the Brecon Retreat for our honeymoon last November and what can I say but wow! The lodge was amazing, so peaceful and beautiful and the perfect choice. The pictures just didn't do it justice. On top of that Helen was so welcoming and amazing throughout the stay and the personal touches that were added to the lodge were just fantastic. Will definitely be back some time in the future.

The retreat is embedded in the local countryside with a beautiful stream flowing near by, truly stunning location. Recommend the hot tub with a glass of bubbles after a lovely walk up Pen y fan, listening to the birds .
The retreat lodge was fully equipped with even the little extras for Ozzie (dog basket) full of goodies for him to enjoy π
Highly recommend as Brecon Retreat was home from home and will be revisiting next spring

This is the most amazing place made even more special by Helen's talent for providing everything you need and those extras you would not have even thought of. From the supersoft towels, the luxurious bedding to the kitchen with every utensil, the dog run,the cinema and entertainment hut in the garden and the many places to relax and enjoy the beauty of this home. It feels like a home you will be sorry to leave and want to come back to again soon.
I would recommend this to anyone for the accommodation and if you have dogs it is absolutely unbeatable.

The only down side to this property is having to leave!! We've just returned from a family holiday and have had the most wonderful time, Helen is a lovely host - nothing is too much trouble and the thought she has put into the property is astounding...night lights, board games, hot tub, cinema room, the garden is awesome for the kids and the dog! Stayed here for 3 nights with my partner and dogs what lovely perfect cosy setting in a well thought out accommodation even theyβre Brecon Retreat own brand home fragrances throughout the lodge were so warm and welcoming! Had to purchase some to take home as they were so amazing! Would highly recommend this place to all of my family & friends.
My wife booked this for my surprise 40th birthday and we loved every minute of our 4 night stay. Accommodation was first class, immaculately clean and all modern facilities. Our son enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and we received a lovely hamper on arrival. Helen was an amazing host, she popped in when we arrived to show us around and nothing was too much trouble she even came to our rescue once to light the wood burner. Overall a great relaxing family break and will be definitely returning for another family trip οΏ½
Just lush! Back from our 2nd visit and just so lovely and tranquil. Helen and her team are fab and do everything to make your stay super great! The only thing she can't control is the weather but it didn't stop us - just not quite the long summer evenings outside that I'd dreamed of οΏ½ oh well just jump in the tub instead οΏ½
