Brecon Volunteer Bureau is a charity that acts as a link between people seeking voluntary work and people or organisations who provide volunteering opportunities.

BVB is part of a Powys-wide network of Volunteer Bureaux / Community Support Offices, known collectively as Powys Community Support Network. Sometimes a volunteer can be referred to another office if this is more appropriate. Likewise, useful volunteering info can be shared within the network. If a volunteer relocates within Powys, then we can provide contact with their nearest Volunteer Bureau, for continuation of services. Each office has regular interaction with other charitable groups in the locality. ‘Signposting’ to relevant groups forms part of the remit. We can signpost you to organisations who can offer basic training, such as First Aid, to our regular volunteers.

On Fridays we have the over 50’s Tea Club for chatting over tea & biscuits, ‘Memory Lane’ discussions, and occasional quizzes. These are overseen by volunteers, and all contributions go towards running costs. Hidden benefits are that problems are highlighted, and can be resolved by volunteer interaction. Also, the Tea Club provides a ’stopping point’ for infirm people to have a much-needed rest between shopping chores. We hold seasonal celebrations and occasional outings when possible.

We have a wealth of local knowledge, and can advise you on which voluntary group would be most beneficial for you to join, taking your interests and experience into consideration. We will give extra support to those who feel they require some help with the initial referral process.

Take action on issues that matter to you, and ensure a brighter future for your world and those who share it. Working together to improve things with projects ranging from tidy-ups to wildlife work and conservation.

A few hours of your support can make all the difference for somebody, through schemes ranging from community transport projects to befriending work and help for carers.
