An unexpected donation towards our Appeal came at the weekend, from the Members of the Royal Naval Association, Riyadh Branch in Saudi Arabia. We were presented with £1000 by RNA member Ben Matushke, who's family are from Felinfoel, who paid us a quick visit on Sunday morning, and presented the cheque to Sharon Sheppard, Vice Chair of the Crew Committee, on behalf of all the Team. Grateful thanks to all the members of RNA Riyadh Branch. This takes our Appeal total to £28,450 of the £40,000 target.

Most scaffolding down, electricians, plumbers working inside, cables and pipework going in. Lift being fitted. Outside taking shape, stonework going well, drainage being connected, all really taking shape.

On Friday morning, a small group of our volunteers attended School Assembly at Glan-y-Mor School, to receive a donation from the School Sponsored walk, held in September. After a very warm welcome, we were presented with a cheque for £1,500, an amazing result from the event, and a similar sum was also being donated to MacMillan Cancer Support. Burry Port RNLI presented a Team photo to Emily Self of 7CR, as the pupil who had raised the highest individual amount, and also to Re...gistration Class 8AH, as the group with the highest amount. Lifeboat Operations Manager Roger Bowen expressed thanks to all, and extended an invitation to the School, to visit the New Lifeboat Station when 'up and running' in 2019. Grateful thanks to all the pupils, staff and supporters of this annual event, and we hope that some future crew members will emerge and join us in the future.

To clarify some of the speculation and rumours that are appearing on local social media, we can confirm that yesterday evening we assisted the UK Coastguard and Dyfed Powys Police to carry out a thorough search of the Burry Estuary, after the discovery, and then recovery of a body found on Cefn Sidan Beach, Pembrey.
This incident is NOT linked, in any way, to the incident that we attended on the previous evening.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families ...concerned.
For any further information, please contact Alun Wells, Deputy Launching Authority and Press Officer at Burry Port RNLI, on 07717881650.

At 1640 yesterday, a pager request from Milford Haven UK Coastguard was received, and the D class Inshore Lifeboat was launched to assist in the search, from many informants, of a person seen entering the water in the Pwll/ Llanelli Beach area. Dyfed Powys Police, and Burry Port UK Coastguard teams were also tasked. With fast fading light, Rescue Helicopter 187, which was heading back to St Athan from Pembroke, was also tasked to search the sandbanks from Pembrey Old Harbour..., eastwards towards Llanell Beach. At this point our Atlantic 75 Lifeboat was also dispatched to assist in the search. After a very thorough search of the whole area, all units were stood down at around 1815, with nothing found. All units returned safely, and after cleaning down, our volunteers continued the normal Tuesday evening training with a classroom based refresher on First Aid.

A huge boost to the New Lifeboat Station Appeal this week, with a donation of £2,863.11, received from our Crew Committee, as a result of the Auction Night held in July. This takes the running total of the Appeal up to £27,229, which is 68% of the £40k target. A huge thanks to the Crew Committee and Crew, and to all who supported and donated for the event. Grateful thanks also to Mumbles RNLI Crewmember 'Badger' Miles for his support on the evening.
... If you want to donate, Justgiving details are at the top of the page, or contact any Crewmember or Management Committee member.

At 1657 hrs today, pagers lit up with a request to launch the D Class lifeboat to search the Pwll area for a sighting of a dog swimming about 30 metres off shore, in the main river channel. With further reports of a possible missing dog-owner in the area as well, the Atlantic lifeboat was also launched, to assist in the search, in a fast moving ebbing tide, and fast fading daylight conditions.
Burry Port UK Coastguard team, and Dyfed Powys Police were also tasked to search th...e Coastal Path area. A thorough search was undertaken, but at around 1830 all units were stood down, with nothing found. Both lifeboats safely returned to station.
This was our 66th call for 2018, the highest number of shouts in one year that we have ever undertaken, mainly as the result of a very busy July/August period.

Congratulations to Kelvin Rees and Tom Caines who both qualified this week, as launch vehicle drivers, on the Tooltrak vehicle and the larger County tractor. The 2 day training and assessment, under the supervision of assessor Mike Allmond, was assisted by other crew members, to carry out launch and recovery procedures. Well done to Kelvin and Tom, and thanks to all the crew who were able to support the event, and thanks to Mike for his time leading the assessments.

A special visit during training last night, with 9 year old Jude Rees, accompanied by Mum, came over to present us with £530 that he had raised from friends, relatives, neighbours as a thankyou after his dramatic rescue in August. Jude is seen in the photograph, presenting the money to helmsman Paul Mitchell, who helmed one of the boats on the rescue shout. The family requested that we spend the money on something for the New Lifeboat Station, so we will be looking closely at... our shopping list. An open invitation has been given for Jude to visit the new facility when it opens in the New Year. The evening was rounded off with Jude watching both boats launch from the harbour for a training exercise. A big thanks to Jude and his family, and to everyone who supported his fundraising. A brilliant result.
