About Caerleon Rfc Petanque

Caerleon RFC Petanque is a competitive but friendly club: old and new players are very welcome to come along for a game at our regular melees (every Thursday April to September). Players can borrow boules if they don't have their own.

Dave goes to the top of the table with taking 3 wins from last weeks melee with Dick and Shelia only 2 points behind Note- Looks like Dick is the inform player overall, has only lost 4 games from 18 got to be favourite to take this years title ๐Ÿ˜›

Friendly doubles on Sunday 22nd
Over the weekend Toni Ikonen a Finnish boule player is visiting Cardiff. Our Caerleon team played his team in the euro-cup (and I got roundly hammered by him in the singles!)
He has asked if there are any boules matches he can get to and play in. The easiest option for him we have found is to play in Monkstone Pen-y-Lan on Sunday 22nd.
... Pen-y-lan have extended the invitation to anyone else who would like to join in. They will be starting at 10.30 - playing 3 timed doubles games (plenty of people to make up teams there if needed). They aim to finish at 1.00- 2.00ish. Cost is ยฃ1.
If you would like to come along to meet Toni or just to have a few games, please do so (let me know if you want a lift as I will be driving down).
Really sorry that this clashes with the Sunday Melee - which Ray and Jackie said they would run for our visitors and the club, but, this is the easiest way round for Toni.
There's a good chance we may take Toni and friend off afterwards for another couple of friendly games, via food, either at ours or maybe the Clytha or Wheatsheaf if you want more games afterwards!
Paul p.s. He will be arriving on Friday night - Message me if you fancy joining him in the rock-dives of Cardiff for a pint or three!

Two Finnish petanque players are visiting Cardiff on Sat 21st and Sun 22nd July. (We played Toni in the Euro-cup)
I am still looking for games that they can play in on either date. Let me know (I know I asked before) of anything even if its a melee or friendly - IM me or post here.
... If we turn nothing up in the next couple of days - I will put out a call for a few players who fancy a friendly game or two.

Bastille weekend update: In the TRIPLES on Sunday 8th July we have 17 teams playing - that's the most playing in one place in Wales for some time but it would be great to have one more team (or 3 more!!) to make it a nice even number! Entry is ยฃ15 per team: there will be Gold ๐Ÿ…and Silver ๐Ÿฅˆ competitions in the afternoon with cash prizes for winners (minimum first prize ยฃ100) and runners up.
We are up to 66 confirmed players for the MELEE on Saturday 7th July - and as we have hit a nice square number, entries for the melee are now CLOSED. We're off to the shops now for buffet๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฅช๐Ÿฅ—, fancy dress ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฉ and prizes ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿพ...

Really sad news that Austin Jones from Brecon Petanque died yesterday.
Austin was a fantastic ambassador for our sport. Recognised for all his work by the WPA with a lifetime membership.
Austin would always have a chat, he always had advice and an opinion and boy did he work hard for the Brecon club and WPA events.
... On a personal level, we had an anniversary party in Brecon shortly after we started playing boules. We took a group down to the rugby club, with our leisure boules, to have a few fun games. Austin was there cleaning, tidying and maintaining. He took time out to help us out, give us all tips and show us how it was done.
Up until recently and after he stopped playing Austin would turn up to WPA meetings to ensure Brecon always had a say and got a competition or two.
Although Austin has not been active in the boules scene for a while (he has turned up now and then to show his face) he was one of the big movers and shakers who have allowed us all to keep playing this fantastic game.
All of us who have played in the Celtic Challenge will know how much work goes into it. The fact that Brecon held it three times is in no small part down to Austin's commitment to the game and that fantastic competition.
Austin. Condolences to your family. You will be very sadly missed.
From Paul and Tansy
