About Café Chameleon

cafe bar: excellent coffee, bar with craft & cask ales, cafe food, wood-burner, music in Ystradgynlais

Café Chameleon Description

Housed in the old Gough Arms Pub, we are a cafe in the daytime (where you can also have a pint or just a coffee) & a village pub in the evening (where you can also have a meal or bar snack until 9: 30 or an end of the evening coffee). We love music, so there is always something playing on our sound system as well as the 1st Saturday of the month Open Mic & 3rd Saturday Folk Music Session. We have cask ales, craft beers & draft Guinness & we think we make the best coffee in the Swansea Valley! Our menu includes home-made cakes & an unusually good choice of Vegan, Vegetarian & Gluten-free options (the main cook is Coeliac). We serve food from when we open at midday right through to 9: 30 & take bookings from 6: 30 pm. We are on the edge of the Country Park, so ideal for Walkers, dog-walkers & cyclists.

We are lucky to have so much on offer in Ystradgynlais, please share! What to do in Ystradgynlais the next week? In running order: 1) Welfare Hall, Gasper Nali at Ystradgynlais Welfare Hall Friday August 10th 8 pm. Described as a “one man party” of Malawian music. Tickets £12/£10. 2) Night of August 11th-13th peak nights (but I saw a first one on Saturday standing outside the cafe), the best meteor shower of the year. Because it is a new-ish moon this year, the sky will be dark enough for a good show by midnight. 3) August 14th, Le Flea (Du Cirque) in the Gorsedd Park (tickets from the Welfare are £6 & booking is essential, 12:00, 1:30, 3 pm); “a ramma-jamma-packed-hour of mayhem”. 4) Then on Tuesday 14th at 8 pm at cafe Chameleon, a main act from Brecon Jazz festival,is coming to the cafe. Tickets are £5, still a few left.

User

We are very excited to announce that you can see some of the finest musicians at this year's Brecon Jazz at cafe Chameleon on Tuesday August 14th at 8 p m. Tickets are just £5 & are on sale from the cafe now, already selling & there are just 50 to be had.

Late notice but we will be showing England v Sweden in our backroom from 2.30ish today.

User

Hello Everyone... We are not renowned for showing sporting events but we will have the England v Columbia game on in our Parlour on Tuesday evening from 6.30 onwards. Feel free to come along and support either team!!

User

Spend the day in the sun on Saturday & then cool off indoors watching this. You could even come to cafe Chameleon afterwards for a glass of something or a cuppa (but if you're choosing between the two, go to the film please!). I'll see you there.

And our last arts post for today. The arts week kicks off with an Open event "Private" view (art enthusiasts are welcome!) at Pontardawe Arts Centre tonight. Many of the artists will be there & its a chance to ask them where else you can see their work or visit their studios this week.
Please join us for the Launch of Art Week 2018 (22nd June – 1st July) and the Private View of the Arts the Tawe Valley Exhibition (22nd June - 18th August) in the Oriel Lliw Gallery at 7 pm. There is a wide selection of members work on display and for sale.
This year’s Art Week which takes place from the 22nd June to the 1st July 2018 has a great programme of exhibitions, workshops and other arty happenings during the week. Check out https://artsinthetawevalley.com/…/expre ssion-of-interest-a…/ for more information.

Leanne's work is on display as part of the Arts in the Tawe Valley 3rd annual art week. I'll put up some photos of the art works over the next few days, but they are delicate & detailed & best appreciated by coming to see them.

A road full of art in your village: art group exhibition, Riverside art gallery & Valley Arts week exhibition Leanne Vaughan-philipps. Open today & 10-4 pm tomorrow (cafe open until at least 11 pm).

Short notice I know...but I will be opening the cafe at 6 PM for the Tunisia v England game tonight which will be on in our back room (AKA The Parlour). We have some Welsh cask ales remaining from our weekend beer festival that I'm selling off at £2 a pint. So if you want to cheer either England or Tunisia and drink cheap ale you will be more than welcome. Btw the football is not obligatory as you can sit in the cafe but service will be limited if you are not drinking ale as I am the only member of staff and I will be watching the game. We will be operating a help yourself honesty bar for the ale. (The kitchen will not be open) Howie X

Hi There Café People... We are pleased to tell you that we have 11 different cask ales to choose from this weekend...all from local Welsh breweries, copious amounts of Welsh cider and live music Saturday afternoon/evening. The bar will also be open this Sunday from 2PM. Please tell everyone you know :-)

Anyone wanting to sell a UPVC door (suitable as a back door, not front)? Must have a frame & keys for the lock! Message me at the cafe - we could collect tomorrow.

User

Howie is asking if anyone has a spare ticket for the Swans cup game tomorrow?

Went here yesterday For lunch, my second visit it was very busy and we waited a while for food to arrive but it was gorgeous and worth the wait just shows it's all cooked and prepared fresh. Coffee is delish too !

Arrived at 1pm and left around 3.30pm because it's comfy welcoming and we talked for Wales !

Lovely atmosphere and friendly helpful staff..

gonna bring my mum here when she visits next she is gonna love it 😍

My favourite place for lunch/a drink/ meal whatever. So bright and light, lovely staff, excellent food at reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

I eat a vegan diet and I went here for lunch with a friend who eats meat. It is so refreshing to find a place that serves healthy and wonderful food that suits us both. The vegan options all sounded delicious and I had difficulty in choosing what to have. I decided on the Garden Fry Up - it didn't disappoint! My friend chose a vegetarian meal and she also thoroughly enjoyed it.

They have a wide range of alcoholic drinks and serve a very, very nice cup of coffee.

This was my second lunchtime visit and I am planning to go back there very soon xxx

Had food here yest lunch time. Was my third time here. Lovely fresh food once again. Friendly service and we didn't have to wait long. Love the vegetarian menu here. I highly recommend this place 😊
