Hi all, just an update on our progress with the renovation of our barn into a holiday let. We are almost there now - a few delays along the way but we hope to be up and running by end of March. No pics yet though but please watch this space!

Hi all, I thought I had better update everyone with the latest news. We haven't after all opened Calon B and B this year as we have decided to concentrate our efforts on doing some building work to the main house and also we are renovating our detached barn into a holiday let. Work has begun and we hope it will be finished by end of December. So for next season we will be taking bookings for our self-catering holiday let.

Hello all, Nev and I (Jenny) are excited to be moving to this wonderful place and we look forward to taking over the b&b. We hope we can do as well as Alex and Paul in carrying on their creation. For the next few weeks we shall be settling in and making some changes before we plan to re-open in April. Thanks to Paul and Alex for their good wishes and assistance and we also wish them well in pastures new. Later on this year we have further plans to expand and will be converting our barn to a holiday let. We have a lot of work ahead of us but we look forward to creating what we hope will be a lovely space to come and enjoy a cozy and relaxed holiday in this lovely part of Wales. So please watch this space!

Exciting news! It's all change at Calon this year. We have handed the reins of this beautiful, magical place to a wonderful couple, Jenny and Nev, who have great plans to expand and improve upon what we started, back in 2013. I'll leave it to Jenny to explain what amazing new developments are in store, but as they used to say "Don't touch this dial!" (i.e. don't unlike the page) because you're going to want to book a stay at Calon more than ever! Paul and Alex would like to wish Jenny and Nev all the very, very best for their new venture and look forward to seeing everything flourish.

We've started the garlic harvest today. Vampires who were thinking of booking a room might want to revise their holiday plans.

The Times makes some good suggestions on where to stay for your visit to Cardigan, but although we are biased, we do feel they missed out the friendliest! Come and stay at Calon and see this beautiful part of Wales for yourself.

Spring has well and truly sprung at last.

These lovely falls and the trail round them are pretty much the same today, over 50 years on.

There have been lambs in the fields around Calon for several weeks now, but none in the field behind the house, because that one is quite exposed to the weather. I love seeing the lambs when I'm out on a walk, but nothing beats seeing them in the field behind the garden. You can watch their antics from the bedroom window, or if you are like me, stand in the garden and forget what you were supposed to be doing!

Plan your next visit to the West Wales coast.

A very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year to you from us all at Calon.

This week's guest room biscuits have a bit of a wintery twist. A combination of the flavours of German Lebkuchen and the spiced biscuits from mediaeval times, they are made with wholemeal flour and molasses sugar and spiced with ginger and chilli, then glazed with a gingerbread glaze and a sprinkle of white sugar. They've gone down well so far (the jar has been empty after each stay!)

Our homemade Christmas wreath is on the door, waiting to greet tonight's guests. Leftover chicken wire from the run, burlap from the beehive, rosemary and ivy from the garden and hydrangea heads, also from the garden and sprayed with a little copper to make it a little more festive. I've dried some rosebuds and lemon slices as well, so may add those as December progresses - we'll see how it holds up.
