Canon 135mm f2 or Sigma ART 135mm f1.8 lens - How do they compare on Sharpness after focus calibration? Both lens tested on a Canon 5D MKIV camera body, the thing to bear in mind with new bigger sensor bodies - older lenses with older element coatings may not perform as well as new lenses with up to date element coatings. Two charts to show the difference - Canon first chart /Sigma Art second chart:

Canon 85mm f1.4L IS Lens, its a big beautiful chunk of glass. CFSS has been waiting to test and focus calibrate this lens for some time on a Canon 5D MKIV body and like buses two came along in the same week. What we are seeing is generally a small back focus adjustment -2 in this case and a Sharpest Aperture result of f3.2 and totally usable at f2.8 before sharpness performance starts to fall off. How does this compare against the Canon 85 f1.8 - again usually a backfocus adj...ustment and at best sharp at f4. Canon 85mm f1.2 II L - backfocus again and sharp at f4-4.5. Sigma ART 85mm f1.4 / used to be front focus bias but now tends to be back, sharp at f2.8. Other factors to consider against other 85mm lenses when looking at the Canon f1.4L IS Lens = It has the new fluorine element coatings for the new image sensor. Its weatherproof, its got image stabilisation of 4 stops, its very fast Af in comparison to the Canon f1.2 version and its less of a chunk than the Sigma ART 85 f1.4 and compliments the new Canon 35mm f1.4L II perfectly (sharp after calibration f2.2).

"The best lenses you will ever own might already be in your camera bag....
Sports and Events are two of my favourite areas of photography and I am lucky enough to have some of the best kit available for this sort of work.
I had heard about Jon, who calibrates camera bodies and lenses and, after a little research, I decided to get him to calibrate my kit. I got it back last Friday, after it was away for less than a week.
... On Saturday, I photographed Southport Rugby Club's Ladies Day and the 1st XV match, which was played in the worst light I've seen since February.
Colours are denser, action shots are crisper and there is less noise, even at the very high ISO settings I ended up using.
I have no hesitation in recommending his services." Angus

"Hi Jon. I just want to say a massive thank you for your services in calibrating my camera and lenses. I was having some really HUGE doubts about my ability as a dog photographer, after investing heavily in the best glass, I still wasn't getting the results I was expecting and started to believe that it was my fault and something I must have been doing wrong. This had a knock on effect and I was really beginning to wonder if I even ought to be considering photography as a bus...iness...I decided to eventually use your services and get my equipment professionally calibrated, as a last ditch attempt at crossing every possible cause of my unreliable focusing off the list. All I can say is that I should have done it sooner! I am sat here in happy tears after uploading a dog shoot I did this afternoon and to finally get the dogs eyes in beautiful sharp focus is an incredible feeling. I did know what I was doing after all. Thank you thank you thank you. Cotswold Paw Prints." 😀
