Hey all. This post is a bit out of the ordinary, so please bare with me!
As some of you may know, last year I lost my brother in law Tom last May. A tragic accident while he was away on holiday in Dubai. Unsurprisingly it shook all of our families to pieces. It was the reason that I was away from the business for a fair amount of last year, as I did my best to help and support those most affected. Also to come to terms with it myself.
Toms mum and dad have been working tirel...essly on setting up a new charity, REST, since this experience. They discovered the difficulty of (and very high upfront cost) of getting a loved one home in these circumstances. As a result, REST, in Toms memory, is nearly ready to start providing help to others.
We have been hard at work fundraising for REST, the latest (as many of you will have seen on the bar here) is our 170 mile bike ride at the beginning of May, from Chester to Newport. If anyone would like to sponsor me there is sheet on the bar here still. As a thank you to all who do, I will also be giving away a ┬Ż50 voucher for The Carpenters in a hat draw, to one of the sponsors.

I know many of you will also be busy fundraising for various charities already, but as this is so close to home for me I'd be incredibly grateful for any support. Super scrummy smoked bacon and chicken mac cheese with crispy herb crumb going in to bake off (this ones for my breakfast!) Available on our lunch menu now. Simple, but critically, made from scratch. (Video recipe to follow this week) Yum Yum. In the oven next to daulphinoise potatoes. On the lunch menu with slow cooked lamb shoulder amd red wine gravy. 2 courses only ┬Ż10.95! Why do I do it? Matt and his team are five star plus just amazing the way matt put you at ease off everything from the first meeting too planning our wedding this week has been very stressful lol but matt just took all the pressure from me the girls and guys were outstanding and very professional every guest have said what amazing food and venue so if you are thinking off getting good married here at bespoked and amazing surrounding you will not be disappointed ... our greatest thanks too all matt and his team love Sharon and David Thomas xxxxx

The food is excellent and the staff are all lovely. The place is spotless, and set in idyllic surroundings. What more could you want.

Perfection in all areas! A very classy pub /restaraunt, food was stunning! And staff was very helpful And friendly. Grounds was also very nice, Will deffo be coming back here, especially in the summer time. ­¤æī

Lovely staff, great service, pleasant and spotless surroundings and last but not least the steak was stunning. No need for the balsamic onions and garlic though. The steak was the star of the show. (ThatŌĆÖs just for my taste) reasonable price point too. And you serve bottles of rose lemonade, perfect to compliment Hendricks! WeŌĆÖll be back and continue to recommend youŌĆÖre mouthwatering dishes ­¤śü (especially the steak!) keep up the great work folks!!!

I enjoyed my first meal here this week, was absolutely stunning the beef stroganoff, was slightly jealous of other people who having the steak! That also looked amazing I canŌĆÖt wait to go back and try that next time. See you all very soon.

Staff, service, hygiene was 5* couldnŌĆÖt fault it.

Had rib eye steak cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. Highly recommended

Got married here two years ago today and just come back from celebrating our anniversary with and amazing 3 course meal! Steak is just outstanding. The service from the girls is fabulous, itŌĆÖs definitely our favourite place to eat out!

First time here today, lovely food and very friendly staff ’┐Į Location is beautiful ’┐Į will be returning soon ’┐Į

Fantastic meal, last night guys, always good but exceptional last night, had the lamb shank with plumb sauce and my husband had the steak. looking forward to my christmas lunch with you next friday.

Family Sunday lunch today was amazing 5 of us all having different choices and all faultless. staff and service spot on.

Came here had a lovely steak cooked to just how I like it , service was spot on and very friendly will defiantly return.

Amazing friendly staff and amazing food. Top pub

A wonderful meal. Although it was busy and our food took a while to arrive (they were a member of staff down) it meant we had a relaxing evening with no pressure for us to leave at the end.

The food was beautifully cooked and well presented. I shared a bottle of wine which was really good. A Romanian Sauvignon(?) Delicious!

The staff were attentive without being intrusive. Polite and friendly.

I would recommend The Carpenters Arms without reservation. Excellent value for high quality food in lovely surroundings.

This place was a regular haunt for me around 30 years ago but as a place to drink only.

We went as a small family group of five today. Our starters were garlic mushrooms, tomato and mozzarella salad, whitebait and fish cakes. Really tasty, couldn't fault it.

Then the mains arrived, one order was brought with mash instead of chips and the mushroom stroganoff was completely missed by the waitress. Whilst I'm on the subject of the waitress. She clearly didn't listen to the order as the stroganoff was the first order she took, plus she rather annoyingly kept referring to us as "guys" throughout and seemed somewhat frustrated. I fail to see what her problem was as it wasn't busy. Four of us finished our main before the stroganoff even arrived at the table. Whilst I acknowledge that she did apologise and admit to her error and advised it wouldn't be charged for this establishment could be a little more selective with who it employs to keep up the good name it currently has. It was just a shame as her apparent incompetence and sullen manner made us feel that we wouldn't stay for dessert. Plus the service as a whole was very slow, hence the 4 stars only.

The food was very enjoyable and I'd like to return but only when assured that the young lady was on a day off.
