About Children'S Legal Centre

The Children's Legal Centre is a Wales-wide, bilingual service providing information about the law in Wales for children and young people.

Children'S Legal Centre Description

The Children's Legal Centre will be a Wales-wide, bilingual service providing legal advice & representation for children and young people, contributing annonymised data and insights derived from service provision to a bank of research evidence, and advocating for reform in law, policy and practice.

Wales is currently the only UK country not to have a Children's Legal Centre focused primarily on the legal representation, education and consultation of children and young people when it comes to the law.

Despite 1 in every 3 Welsh children living in poverty (the highest in the UK), there currently exists no accessible legal support for this most vulnerable group. This gap between need and provision, in fact seems more deep routed than financial barriers, with a snapshot youth survey (Royal Welsh 2016) finding that of 150 11-18 year old's, the most likely place young people would go for legal advice was the Internet and their parents. Not one respondent said they would go to a lawyer!

The Children's legal Centre aims to change this and bridge the gap between children and young people and the law to improve the lives of Wales' children.
