About Coed Derw Day Nursery
Coed Derw is a bilingual nursery in Llangennech, Llanelli. We offer a homely environment for children to learn, grow & play, & we love outdoor learning.
Coed Derw Day Nursery Description
At Coed Derw Day Nursery we believe that all children are entitled to the best start in life, which means an excellent day care facility that matches their happy home life.
We have created a calm and relaxing space for children from the age of 3 months to 5 years to learn, grow and play, in a home from home environment. We also offer after school care for children up to the age of 12 years.
We believe that children learn and develop through exploring the natural environment and through having a range of sensory experiences, supported by sensitive adults. We allow the children in our care freedom to express themselves, play and gain confidence and independence.
We follow the Foundation Phase curriculum, encouraging children to engage in sensory, messy and exploratory play. We aim to spend as much time as possible in our extensive outdoor area, and provide a range of resources and equipment made from many different materials.
Children in our care are supported and cared for by our qualified staff who have experience as playworkers, play therapists, outdoor practitioners, Forest School leaders, early years advisers, teachers and psychologists. Together, this diverse team create a wonderful learning environment in which children feel nurtured, supported, loved and respected.
Parents are encouraged to be as involved as possible in the children's day care experience, with daily journals kept by children's key workers. The nursery ethos is based in part on Steiner, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Scandinavian paradigms. This means the children in our care have access to a wide range of learning styles adapted from some of the world's leading early years experts.
The nursery offers a full day, school day, half day and before or after school service. This is dependent on the need of specific parent and child. Prices are available on request. Discounts are offered for full week places. Discounts are also offered for parents registering more than one child.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. Lunch is provided by local catering and early years organisation 'The Learning Partnership' and is prepared and delivered by them daily. Menus are available on request.

... Due to our passion for loose parts play, our Nursery has very few resources that are not made of natural materials or that have a specific purpose.
As stated by Science Daily, 'Introducing simple, everyday objects can cut sedentary behaviour by half, improve creativity and boost social and problem-solving skills'.

We love being out in the garden so today we kept cool by playing in the paddling pool and with the hosepipe! There was lots of splashing involved!

Today, Coed Derw's creative little explorers chose to turn one of our trees in to a fire engine. Next, the tree was used as a lookout... a lookout for pirates!
We have had so much fun out in the garden today. Through child led play, trees really can be turned into anything!
... Oh- and let's not forget the sense of pride little explorers feel when they climb up high!

This morning, Coed Derw's little explorers chose to dig in the mud.
However, little explorers then discovered that the mud was very dry... and what they really wanted was 'sticky mud'!
Our independent little explorers problem solved together and worked out that to make wet 'sticky mud', they would need to add water.
... Coed Derw's team then made sure that bowls of water were accessible to little explorers so that they were able to lead their own learning and experiment with different muddy textures.
This activity then led to mud painting using the 'watery paint' that the children had just made from mud.

This morning, Coed Derw's little explorers were very excited to have found woodlice and bees...
To follow on from little explorers' interest in mini beasts, little explorers were given the opportunity to participate in a mini-beast hunt out the garden!
Through this, wild things led their own learning through fun exploratory play in the natural environment.

Tori and the staff have gone to great lengths to help my little ones settle in. I love the fact that the care is focused on treating children as individuals, and making the setting as close to a home from home as possible. I'd highly recommend this nursery to anyone!
Tori and the rest of the staff here are truly amazing. I have every confidence that the care given here is first class. My son loves it here, at first I felt guilty for returning to full time work, but the look on boys face when I take him to coed Derw in the morning says it all. They can't do enough to make you and your children welcome and will do everything they can to make your children feel comfortable.
Im so lucky we have coed derw on our doorstep! My grandson starts his full day tomorrow. Lovely staff and great place . I know hes going to love it!
I visited here yesterday and I couldn't believe how quiet it was. I actually lowered my voice (rare) because I thought the children were sleeping. They were playing so quietly, it's a very calming atmosphere there.
