And it’s a wrap!
Well it’s now over and done with and we would just like to thank a few people. The event couldn’t of happened without a small team of people; Anna, Kai, Andy and Sue. Anna has organised most of this event herself and we would like to thank her all for lots of hard work she has done to get the event the best it has been. We would like to thank Kai for operationally running the event, we would like to thank him for his advice and experience on safety and securi...ty.
We would like to also thank Andy and Sue for all there hard work, we couldn’t do it without them. Clive for his brilliant skills being the presenter for our entertainment on Penrhyn stage. Newms for medical cover and Corvus for security.
Our main attraction being the plane and the BARV which had been supplied by War and Peace Displays. It was also good to spend time in the bar with them after. They are amazing people especially Bradley, Rory and Steve.
Also thanks to Events Conwy for sponsoring the plane and all their preparations for UK Armed Forces Day 2018. Thanks to Powlsons Limited for suppling our ration booklets.
Again, thank you all for coming and see you all next year for the best event in North Wales!
P.S here is a video of the BARV being loaded onto its trailer this evening.

Our first time attending the 1940s weekend in Colwyn Bay and had an incredible time. Huge thanks to all the organisers. The stage acts were superb and everyone dressed in 40s splendour made the event. Met some amazing people and thoroughly enjoyed the blitz ball. We will definitely be back again and keen to go to the Howarth weekend now.

Another beautiful day in the Bay. Much fun was had by all.

It was a wonderful event and all the people involved did a great job. Two things id like you to bear in mind for next year. Wheelchair access, trying to push my 96 year old nan round yesterday was difficult, could do with ramps for the high pavements. Secondly a good sound engineer, the musicians were brilliant but it was all whacked up to full volume so it was uncomfortable being anywhere near to the stages. Music doesnt need to be that loud.

User

Can you tell us what times events start pls (reinactment ect) ?

User

Apparently according to my friend in Deganwy they intend being bigger event this year by doing things on beach S we'll it is april

This was our 1st year at the Colwyn bay 40s festiva and had been looking forward to it for some time after hearing how good it was from people who had visited last year. To be honest I was very disappointed, the weather on Saturday helped to make it a good day which was rather quiet by normal 40s events standards. There were no traders to look around and long periods with no music playing. George Formby was excellent as always but other entertainers were slow and ballards are not the thing for a daytime event.

The blitz ball was another story, ball to me suggest dancing, not sing alongs from elderly entertainers, Ideal for an old folks home where most people can't stand but most people there had come to dance and have a good time, the total dismay from the attendees was shown by the amount of empty tables in the room by the time we left at 10pm. I'm told last year was very good so we can only hope the organiser's take note and go back to last years format. In short it has to be the worst evening ball I have ever attended. Sunday as the weather wasn't so good we just packed up and went home as there wasn't anything to attract us back to the town for a 2nd day.

This is also my second year attending this lovely event with several friends. Firstly I would like to totally agree with the previous comments made by Fiona Roberts. In our opinion the street entertainment apart from the George Formby tribute act left a lot to be desired. There was long periods of time where no music was being played which resulted in people wandering away from the main attractions and entertainment area. Good entertainers keep people on the street and both re-enactors and public alike enjoy dancing and listening to the music. Therefore I think the idea of having two stages on the same street is an excellent idea so there can be continuous music and dancing at all times. Last year the Glamophones trio were very good and the the Llandudno swing band amazing as was the lovely and very talented Beverley Alexander , so was disappointed not to see these acts this year as everyone enjoyed them . Secondly the evening dance was a total disaster. “Dance” was meant to be the operative word but no opportunity to do so as we were subjected to sing alongs all night . A lot of people left early including our table of 10. The food was ok but paying £15 each felt very disappointed and annoyed as expecting a full evening of dancing. May I suggest a swing band or similar act for next years ball. I understand that these weekend events take a lot of time and commitment organising them and I applaud all the groups , re enactors and displays that supported the event including the N.W.M.C with their military vintage vehicles and the home front displays. We totally enjoyed catching up with both old and new friends and the glorious weather on Saturday was an added bonus . I hope you take my observations on board and look forward to next years Colwyn Bay 40s event.

Attended for the second year and in my opinion, the event was nowhere near as well organised as last year

Firstly, the entertainers, apart from the GEORGE Formby tribute, who was brilliant, were lacklustre - should have rebooked Beverley Alexander, who is a brilliant singer.

A trio of ‘Andrews Sisters’ type singers always go down extremely well and the Llandudno Swing Band were fantastic, last year.

The two stages should have been at each ends of the same street, so that as one act finished, the other could start their set.

The Ukulele band were dreadful and we were dismayed to find that they were the main act for the dance.

People were turning up for the dance, expecting to have a good night of swing music, such as the Llandudno Swing Band but instead, were subjected to six pages of sing along sheets with the awful Ukulele band and nobody had the opportunity to dance, despite bringing their dancing shoes with them.

As for the second act - we were losing the will to live, listening to them, therefore, a lot of people were leaving early, after paying £15 per ticket.

The food was lovely, though

I hope that my constructive criticisms will be considered, in order to make this event more successful next year and we look forward to seeing you there.
