Baked Beans sales slump as Britain goes off the traditional snack - DAILY MIRROR.
Baked beans are sliding off family menus, with sales plummeting by nearly £21million in the past year.
Top producer Heinz took the biggest hit, down £16. 1million to £216million.
But the snack’s slump could be a sign the economy has turned a corner.
Sales of the cheap meal tend to go up when times are hard.
The Grocer magazine study yesterday declared: “Britain is off the beans. We’ve forked out £20. 8million less on them in the past year, the biggest decline of all the canned food market. ”
It said a lack of fresh ways to promote baked beans was partly to blame.
Even sales of Heinz’s WeightWatchers brand fell 18. 8% to £3. 1million.
Leading rival Branston saw a slight sales rise of 3. 3% , but only to £39million.
We need an urgent national campaign to save our favourite foodstuff from going down the can. We encourage all you haricot lovers to increase your dietary consumption more so for the forthcoming duration of 2014!
