Conwy Mussels Description
Conwy Mussels are the only mussels in the UK which are traditionally fished using hand rakes. The ‘mussel men’ in Conwy have been fishing in this way for a hundreds of years, passing the skills down through each generation, and the family business is an important part of Conwy’s history and identity.
As the mussels live deep in the water of the River Conwy the meat inside is larger than dredged or rope-grown varieties.
Our mussels are taken straight out of the River and placed into the purification unit on the Quay in Conwy. This ensures that their time out of the water is minimal, and more importantly the time taken to get the mussels from the river to your dish is as short as possible - just the way it should be!
