Mametz wood
The Attack on Mametz Wood began on the 07th July 1916 as part of the Battle of the Somme that had started on the 01st July. 38th (Welsh) Division was comprised of thousands of Welshmen, including the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, Welsh Regiment and South Wales Borderers.
The first day of the attack was a disaster, with Welsh soldiers expected to make a frontal assault in daylight on German positions. The enemy’s machine guns cut them down as British forces advanced acr...oss open fields. A second attack was made on the 10th. When relieved on the 12th the division had lost 4,000 men, and the Royal Welch Fusiliers well over 1,000, including four out of five commanding officers.
A memorial stands at Mametz Wood today, commemorating the sacrifice of the Welshmen during the attack.

Beautiful accommodation in the hills above Llangatock
Unfortunately we are without the bus for the next few days. Alternator issues I’m afraid. Booked in on Monday so hopefully all will be sorted early next week.
7am, what a time to finish 😴😴😴

It’s not every day that you bump into Gareth Edwards at Heathrow terminal three. He was waiting to be collected whilst I was waiting to collect somebody else, Shame we couldn’t have swapped jobs. He asked for a photo but I said no Gar it’s too early LOL
