About Cultivate

Cultivate is a local food coop, passionate about our food culture. We support local growers and producers and help people access good food grown locally.

Cultivate Description

Cultivate has three community gardens in Powys, a food shop providing veg and fruit plus other local produce. We are always looking for local growers and producers for our shop. The gardens have cropping areas for fruit and vegetables, micro allotments for people that want their own space as well as communal areas to spend time and have fun. Come down and see us. There is a volunteer day every Wednesday in Newtown and every Monday in Llanidloes.

Very excited to be able to support this fantastic new veg bag scheme in Newtown. Liz, one of the growers, has just dropped some bags off at the shop as one of the local collection points. The bags are packed full with freshly picked, organically grown seasonal veggies. Yum!

It may be a wet and gloomy start to the summer, but the raindrops look beautiful in the herb garden...and great for watering in all the new seedlings!

It may we wet and gloomy out there, but we have beautiful summer veggies in abundance in the shop...like these locally grown globe artichokes, and first of the season broad beans, and Pembrokeshire new potatoes, and organic peaches, and fresh salad...Yum!

Wow, thank you so much for the donations so far! Jodie's dusting off the walking poles and matching up her walking socks...!

Cultivate's Richard and Jodie are planning to do the 42 mile Across Wales Walk on 22nd June and want to raise some money to support Cultivate activities...especially to develop more Incredible Edible sites around Newtown for everyone to eat and enjoy. If you would like to sponsor us, pop into the shop where we have a sponsor form and tin or donate via Facebook. Richard has done the 42 mile walk loads of times before...Jodie has not done it ever (and has done little to no training, eek!) Let's see how they do on 22nd...👣

This looks fab...

Going to keep sharing posts from these guys...it's been a pleasure working with them to set up a local veg bag scheme. 2 of the growers are based at Cultivate Community Garden, and they will be using the space there to pack the veg bags for local collection. It's what we're all about - supporting local food enterprise!

Had a great day out on Monday, treating our wonderful shop volunteers to a trip to Gregynog, then delicious lunch at Lychgate Cottage Tearooms in Berriew. Unfortunately not all of our volunteers could make it, but it was so nice to spend the day with those who could, and to show our thanks. Cultivate shop runs with volunteer support, to allow us to offer work experience, a great social atmosphere and also ensure that we can keep providing good food grown locally (and a bit further afield) to everyone in Newtown (and a bit further afield!)

Really proud to be able to support this fantastic group of new growers set up a veg box scheme...takes us back to our roots, when over 10 years ago, Cwm Harry ran a local Community Supported Agriculture veg box scheme around Newtown, before we had the community garden and became Cultivate. We have done a lot since then, running our own local and organic box scheme then deciding to focus on the shop in Glanhafren Market Hall, so it's amazing to be able to support a new box scheme offering amazing, fresh, local veg.

Great addition to the community garden entrance, thank to Bike to the Future for upcycling this bike into a work of edible art!

Great buzz around the town at the first Newtown Walking Festival...huge congratulations to everyone involved

At this time of year, the bananas can ripen very quickly in the shop...so what better way to use up ripe bananas than chocolate banana bread! Perfect fuel for the Newtown walking festival too!
