Cyclax Description

Cyclax Ltd is steeped in British heritage, a beautiful journey from the past to the present day.

In 1896, Frances Forsythe – alias Mrs. Frances Hemming – opened a skin care establishment in a converted front room of a house at 58 South Molton Street, London, with the purpose of providing beauty treatments. The Cyclax Ltd Company was founded in 1897 and by the early twentieth century Hemming began selling Cyclax beauty products.

By 1915, Cyclax preparations were being sold via mail order, local chemists and department stores in Britain, Europe, the United States and across the British Empire. Cyclax offered a diverse range of products from simple soaps and skin fluids to chin straps and hair stimulants. The brand covered hair, skin and nails as a primary market. Colours cosmetics were launched soon after.

Cyclax continued to expand its’ range of products, and introduced a training programme for staff, tutored at South Molton Street to become Cyclax consultants within the Cyclax salons. These salons were being launched and established in various parts of the world, either independently or within department stores.

By the 1950’s the vigour of growth slowed. The company’s relationship with the aristocracy began when Queen Elizabeth II was introduced to a Cyclax representative, Thelma Holland, who became her Cosmetician and Beauty Advisor. This relationship flourished and resulted in the granting of a Royal Warrant 1961.
Through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s ownership of Cyclax changes hands many times. In 1999 Richards & Appleby Ltd bought Cyclax Ltd and maintain ownership today, continuing to develop and explore new products and brands.
