A defibrillator has been installed near Cwmdar Primary School thanks to the help from local energy company, Penant Walters. The lifesaving device is the first to be installed in Cwmdare, as part of Grwp Diffibriliwr Cwmdar's commitment to increase the number of defibrillators across the Valleys area. The defibrillator, which is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, is maintained by the group, which carries out regular inspections. Steve Jenkins, a member of the Grwp Diffibriliwr Cwmdar, said: "We are delighted to install this defibrillator in the village so that we can help to improve survival rates for out of hospital cardiac arrests. "We have already trained many people in its use, including members of the community, school governors and pupils at Cwmdar Primary."

*** Cynon Trail closure in Hirwaun ***
A part of the Cynon Trail in Hirwaun will be temporarily closed from Monday, November 4 for three weeks as the Welsh Government undertake drilling work as part of A465 dualling investigations. The closure will be in place to the east of Tramway in Hirwaun. A safe alternative route for pedestrians has been identified via Trenant, Hirwaun Road, Brecon Road, Cynon Terrace, and Tramway. There is no suitable safe alternative route for cyclist...s or horse riders. In October 2018, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Cabinet members supported the Welsh Government's plan for the major dualling scheme on the Heads of the Valleys Road - covering 17.7km from Hirwaun to Dowlais Top. As part of the dualling scheme, Welsh Government will add a junction to the A465 at Croesbychan, facilitating a future Council project to extend the Aberdare bypass - providing a key link between the A4059 and A465.

Check out what we dug out of our archives this morning. This is Dai Llewelyn, from Mountain Ash. Mr Llewelyn was a runner up in the World Gurning Championships in 1978. One of the most colourful characters to come from the Cynon Valley, he was described as "the master of make-believe" by a local historian. Does anyone remember Dai?

Congratulations to Cynon Valley Museum on being shortlisted as a finalist in the Welsh Charity Awards 2019.
The museum, which was reopened as a trust in 2018, has been recognised in the Thriving Charity category.
A spokesperson for the CVMT said: "The CVMT is very grateful to its staff, trustees, and volunteers who have worked extremely hard since the reopening of the Museum to establish the charity and ensure it will be financially sustainable.
... "The Trust is also very grateful to local people, businesses and organisations who have supported the Cynon Valley Museum since 2016 and hopes the relationships will continue into the Museum’s future."
We wish them good luck for the awards ceremony on November 15.
