We will shortly be adding a few new taximeters to our portfolio, these include the Micro and Tiny units by Aquila and these will come in at around £235 and £250 respectively fitted. They will also require less space in your vehicle than most other meters.
For those of you on a tighter budget we can also supply reconditioned Digitax F2 RTC Taximeters installed from £200 which can offer you a good saving over a fresh installation (from £275).

Remember some vehicles require a can bus interface to work correctly which costs £85 extra, again we are happy to advise on what cars require this unit.

VE Day 75th Anniversary & Calendar Controlled Taximeters
Please be aware that with the recent government change to move the Early May Bank Holiday in 2020 from the 5th to the 8th May any calendar controlled taximeters will NOT provide the correct tariff on that day as they will all have the 5th stored in them.
This applies to ALL manufacturers on all CALENDAR based tariffs. Manually selected tariffs are NOT affected.
... We can offer a free update on Aquila meters but for Digitax and Cygnus we would need to charge £10 and £15 respectively.
Some tariffs have an override facility built in which we would have demonstrated to you when installed, however if you have any questions please do get in touch.

A VERY IMPORTANT announcement
We have received correspondence today from Cygnus detailing their plans to remove tariff support for the MR320 taximeter.
This means that you will not be able to update any spare or existing meters tariffs after Jan 2020 if they are due to be changed.
... They have not confirmed whether the Mr350 is affected, however we have only seen a handful of the blue led displayed meter.
The MR320 is a stalwart of the meter trade and from our experience in the various boroughs this is going to have a huge impact.
Cygnus are however offering an upgrade plan to their MR500 meter at a reduced cost.
We would strongly recommend that operators in the Merthyr Tydfil (2008) and Rhondda Cynon Taf (2012) areas pursue a change in their old tariffs before the end of the year, otherwise instead of a £15 charge you would need to change your meter to obtain the new tariff!!
In our professional capacity as a taximeter installer we find this news disappointing that such a well established meter is finally being taken out and it will undoubtedly cause excessive costs for operators to upgrade.
To clarify our position - we are still able to fit these meters if you have spare or second hand versions, provided that the tariff is correct for the size and area for the vehicle. We have a substantial collection of existing borough tariff keys for the 320/350/400 series which means we should be able to support you all well in the next decade before our keys eventually expire.

Meter Head Changes
If you need a new meter and your vehicle is already wired for one then we can offer to just change the taximeter itself.
Maybe your existing meter is damaged or cannot be upgraded or you wanted to change to a mirror for instance.
... Provided the previous wiring/install is to a certain standard we normally halve the cost of an installation - saving you upto £35
This also applies to the fitting of second hand meters.
We can advise you on exactly what it will cost you when we check the vehicle.

BRIDGEND 2019 Hackney Carriage Updates
We will be situated behind the Co-op/Gym in Brackla (Triangle) at the following times;
Monday 14th through Wednesday 16th at 10am to 4pm
... We will be updating the following meters * Aquila T2, T2D and M12 * Cygnus MR300/320/350/400/500/500View * Digitax F2, ET806, M1
We are unable to adjust Viking Meters - See Contact Comms in Newport or the Meter Man in Cardiff.
If you have the older Cygnus MR200 or 100 taximeter then you will need to buy a new meter as these cannot be changed anymore.

Please be aware there are a large number of hackneys in Bridgend and you should consider arriving mid morning or mid afternoon to avoid queues, but you can always return at a later time or day at your convenience.
There will be two members of staff updating meters at core times to speed up the process when it gets busy.
ALL meters carry the same cost of £10 and you will be given a certificate of compliance for Bridgend CBC.

BRIDGEND TARIFF UPDATE
We are aiming to be in Bridgend on the 14th, 15th and 16th of January to update your tariffs on Aquila, Cygnus and Digitax meters.
We are currently working out the fine details and will notify you all very shortly on how, where and when this will happen.
... Costs are always the same, its £10 onsite for all meters and after that week it will be back to £15 onsite in our Merthyr workshop.

NOTE... Cygnus MR300 and older (300/200/100) series meters cannot be updated at all sorry. They are no longer supported by Cygnus.
All Aquila models can be updated. Aquila keypads can be changed (if sticky or rubbed blank) for £15 and takes 10 minutes.
We will have some accessories with us but for all non-tariff queries you may have to book a time or wait for a quiet spell to allow for the work to be carried out.

We are awaiting official confirmation of the hackney tariff changes from the council before we can update meters in this area.
Once received we will be able to update Aquila almost immediately, Cygnus within 2-3 days and Digitax in 3-4 days.
... Given the number of working days between now and Christmas it doesn't give us much time to get onsite to assist you within the borough. However we are trying our best to get ready to update you all before Christmas.

We only charge £10 to fully remove a taximeter (if we originally installed the meter its free) this helps you because all the wiring is safely removed from your vehicle, it makes reinstallation better for the installer (longer wires!) and most importantly there may be additional tech in the car which you are not aware of.
For instance, this Avensis had a Cygnus mr400 fitted, it does not require a can bus interface but the original installer had used one and this can now be used on his next vehicle saving him £85.

Just an update to say that we arent as busy as yesterday in Caerphilly so we are available for basic repairs should anyone need anything done.
We have the Aquila T2 keypads in stock (silver version) and will have the mk1 (black unit) available for Wednesday morning.
In addition Digitax M1 mirror meters can now be updated onsite
