Myth or Legend from Denbighshire | Pwca in the box There was once a malevolent being that continually changed form in the Old Rectory in Llandegla. The wise man from Grianrhyd was sent for to ‘lay the ghost’. He struggled until it took the form of a fly which he caught, put it in a box and placed under a stone in the river near the mill bridge. It is said that the ghost would escape when a tree reached the height of the parapet and school children trimmed the tree every year for years to prevent the escape. Myth or Legend? Water Monsters #MythFestWales Family Event Two changeling creatures tormented fishermen and farmers across NE Wales. Llamhigyn y dwr is described as being a giant frog with bat wings and a lizard tail with a stinger on the end. He was renowned for capsizing boats, eating fish stocks and taking livestock that got too close to lake shores. The descriptions of Afanc vary but in NE Wales they seem to combine a dwarf a crocodile and a beaver. He too is said to enjoy upsetting people near lakes and rivers. Sneaking up on people, stealing livestock, his torment got so bad in some areas that the villages took advice and were told to make Adder Stones. Stones were brought from the shore and decorated. If thrown at Afanc he would be banished back to the water he came from. Book Tickets Now 10th June http://ow.ly/PhDz30k9Zl3

Myth or Legend? The Hairy Hand | Myth Fest Wales Book Now Richard Roberts from Bylchau near Denbigh got into a habit of going nutting on a Sunday. He found a fabulous area for nuts and reached out to a bush laden with nuts when a small hairy hand reached towards the same branch. He fled and confessed to the amused Reverend Jones that it was satan encouraging him to ‘go a nutting’ on a Sunday. Book MythFest today Talacre June 10th

Fact or Fiction? Legends from North Wales. The Fairy Ring Found in Corwen The Tylweth Teg don’t like broken secrets or treachery. A shoemaker turned tanner from Pont Petrual walked several miles every day to work in Corwen. One day he noticed a fairy ring and in the centre a silver coin. Thereafter, every day he passed and saw and took the silver coin. He became a very well-to-do man, but his wife continually questioned where the wealth had come from. Worn down, one day, he told her but swore her to secrecy. She couldn’t keep it quiet and told her neighbour. The next day everyone knew and the silver coins never appeared again.
