About Discover Walking Pembrokeshire

We provide guided walks; we teach hill walking skills packages for those who have little or no previous walking experience; and we have cottages to rent.

Discover Walking Pembrokeshire Description

Tregynon Cottages are situated above the beautiful Gwaun Valley, nestled below the Preseli Hills, in the heart of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, four miles from the picturesque village of Newport and the stunning Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. To one side stands proud Foel Eyre (Eagle Mountain) and to the other stands Carn Ingli (Mountain of Angles) and beyond that is the Atlantic Ocean. The Gwaun is a very special place: its tranquility calls you to it and will lure you back time and again.

We offer three things to you. (1) A series of long and short guided walks and sightseeing days visiting the very best of Pembrokeshire's iconic sites. During these days with us we will explore the history, the geology, the folklore and the culture of Pembrokeshire and we will take you away from the crowds to allow you to discover the secrets of this mystical land and its people.

(2) We also offer hill walking skills packages for those who have little or no experience but who want to learn about how to become safe and competent in the hills environment. We cover route planning, navigation and map reading, clothing and layer management, what should be in your rucksack, what to do when something goes wrong and a miscellany of other considerations.

(3) Irrespective of whether you wish to take up any of our guided walks or our hill walking skills modules, Tregynon Cottages also offers excellent 4* rated cottage accommodation and purpose built facilities for walkers and cyclists: a drying rooms with lockable secure cages; a map room for walking instruction, planning and local reference information; carriage to and from walking start and finish (if part of a walking module but otherwise limited); and an indoor bike-friendly facility for housing, cleaning and repairing bikes. All these facilities are offered free of charge for those staying in the cottages.

The cottages are set in approximately one acre of land and consist of a main residence (Dan Y Mynydd) which is lived in by Ian and Carol Pattinson – the owners – and two single storey cottages (Foxglove and Honeysuckle) which they rent out all year round. All the buildings date to the 16th century and are of local stone construction: they were all originally farm outbuildings.

Foxglove and Honeysuckle have been internally modernised and extensively refurnished to a high standard in late 2014. Visit Wales have awarded both cottages 4 star accreditation and assessed Tregynon Cottages as Walker Friendly and Bike Friendly. The cottages enjoy private parking and sit within lawned grounds surrounded by countryside and farmland.

Ian and Carol know that, more than anything else you, rightly, expect to receive a value for money experience during your holidays but you also recognise it is fair that you pay the right price for that experience. We believe that we have achieved the right balance and priced our cottages accordingly.

And we have also listened to what you want when you return from your day out. Regardless of whether you have had an energetic day’s walking, whether you have been sightseeing, relaxing by the coast or just sitting on a hill unwinding from your usual routine: you want the same things from your accommodation. You want to be able to sit in comfortable and warm surroundings and feel that you are completely free to make your own decisions about what to do next and when. At Tregynon Cottages we have worked hard to ensure that you remain in control and that you can make those decisions. You can shower or bathe whenever you want to, knowing that there is constant hot water and full central heating throughout; you want to be able to prepare your own meals in your own well-appointed kitchen or know where to go if you want to eat out; you want to be able to listen to music, watch some television or a DVD, catch up on your e-mails or surf the net, read a book or just sit in silence and soak in the atmosphere of your 500 year old surroundings; and you want to be able to feel that Welsh ambiance. Each cottage has: its own washing machine; its own private garden area with its own garden furniture. And when you get to your bed you want to be able to sleep soundly and in comfort knowing that you are secure in your 2 feet thick walled surroundings and dream of what the next day holds for you.

Equally, we have also thought carefully about what you don’t want! You don’t want hidden extras and so we are clear – all electricity and gas, water, towels, bedding, unlimited wi-fi and the starter packs are included in the price. No hidden extra costs. A linen and towel change is provided free for those staying more than 7 nights.

Please note that pets are not allowed at Tregynon Cottages because we are surrounded by farmland where working dogs operate and we know that some guests can have pet allergies. We hope you will understand our decision. Tregynon Cottages are also strictly non-smoking.
