Drala Jong – A Buddhist Retreat Centre in Wales
Drala Jong is a place where human beings can discover the pleasure of existence – the pleasure that animates the sense fields and revitalises the Arts – and the art of living.

Drala Jong is a group of people interested in the Drala Jong Retreat Centre project, which has been initiated at the direction and inspiration of Dud'jom Rinpoche and Kunzang Dorje Rinpoche. Drala Jong will be the UK home of the Aro Tradition, a small family Dzogchen lineage from within the Nyingma Vajrayana Buddhist Tradition.

Drala Jong exists innately in human beings. ‘Drala’ is the appreciative faculty which enlivens people exponentially as they begin to engage more openly with the phenomenal world. Appreciation is the key to enjoyment – and, to delighting in the enjoyment of others. When we learn to appreciate phenomena our sense fields ‘jong’ begin to sparkle and a sense of generosity is born, connecting us more dynamically ‘drala’ with others. Although Vajrayana is by no means unknown in the West, the sense in which enjoyment and compassion are mutually interdependent remains unexpressed. We would like Drala Jong to be a place where human beings can discover the open-ended pleasure of existence – the authentic pleasure which animates the sense fields, revitalises the Arts and the art of living, and creates a better world for everyone. The Aro Buddhist tradition wishes to establish a permanent centre in Britain to make this rare strand of Buddhism more accessible to people in the home country of our lineage holders Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen.
