About Drumabeat
Workshop Facilitator: Sarah Taylor-Shaw (Director, Musician, Performer, tutor).

Hi there,

My name is Sarah and over the past 35 years I have immersed myself in the world of drumming and percussion, gaining considerable experience and learning from some of the UK's leading drum, percussion and music tutors. They have helped me considerably in developing my technical and musical skills and whom without I would not be where I am today.

It all started around the age of 10 where I learnt to play the snare drum in a marching band and from this early age I was taught the techniques, disciplines and rudiments of drumming.

Since then I have gone on to play drum kit and percussion in various bands over the years and in 1993 I settled into college and university life, spending several years as a student of Music, Performing Arts and Theatre in Education in Worcestershire. I also gained a GRADE 5 Music Theory qualification from the Royal College of Music.

Then, several years later, having moved to Wales I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a Samba band at Pontardawe Festival. I was completely and utterly sold and
Samba Tawe Community Drumming and Dance Group was how I got into Samba Drumming. I have been with the group for over 15 years and, I am proud to say, now the Musical Director for the group where I teach, direct and perform as a member of the band.

In addition to this, I am also resident drummer for THE UKOHOLIX (Swansea’s premier Ukulele cover band) where I play CAJON and percussion at gigs, events and concerts across South Wales and the UK. I can provide Cajon sessions for your group. Whether you are looking to introduce the Cajon to your band but would first like to see and hear how this instrument could be an asset to your group or are simply unsure how this fantastic instrument works, I can provide a session with your band which can help you decide if the Cajon is for you. I also teach 1 -2-1 CAJON for beginners.
