The next Flintshire Retired Unison walk is on Friday 12 April. This is a different walk to last time, it will be about five to six mile, with some stiles crossing farmland. We will leave North Car park Nercwys Forest at 10am. There are no food or toilet facilities on route, we will have a couple of breaks for anyone that's brought snack/drink. Remember suitable clothing and sturdy footwear. Pub refreshments afterwards hopefully.

The group held our first Tuesday get together of our year yesterday and discussed our programme for the year. One of the issues raised was community transport as you can see from this report some areas are having vital services withdrawn

Further to Bryan's post on last weeks walk. here are a few photos of our visit to Gladstone library at the end of the walk including the church next door which has some fabulous stained glass windows. Definately worth a visit to both. Moira hopes to be back walking soon with the group not just drinking coffee 😉🙄

I've received this from Bryan :- Five of us enjoyed a pleasant walk around Hawarden and it’s environs. It was a bit muddy underfoot but we managed to spot some horses at stables on the way. We also enjoyed a coffee stop at the Hawarden Estate Farm Shop before carrying on to the Old Warren and into Bilberry Wood and Tinkersdale. We met up with Moira and David at the Gladstone’s Library tearooms for tea and a chat after. Bryan

Retired Flintshire UNISON Members walk from Chirk. Five of us enjoyed a pleasant walk in the grounds of Chirk Castle and then joined the Offas Dyke path to go down to cross over the River Ceiriog and follow it’s course towards to the Railway viaduct and canal aqueduct. We then walked up to join the canal towpath to go over the aqueduct to look down and view our walk. We finished with refreshments at Cafe Wylfa.

Notice of August events.
I hope everyone's been managing to keep cool during the recent spate of hot weather. Quite an unusual summer for this country I'm sure you will agree. The last one I remember like this was about 20 years ago and before that in the mid 70s.. This week promises a cooler spell and hopefully some rain for the gardens and reserves of water.
During our discussions about events and speakers for the current year a request was made for Hannah Blythyn our Del...yn Assembly Member and current Environment Minister for Wales to make a visit to us during the summer recess as she has done since her selection to the post three years ago.. Unfortunately Hannah has other commitments on our regular meeting day but can join us the week prior to this on Thursday 16th August at 3pm. Therefore I have booked Mold Rugby club as our venue from 2,30 to 4,30 on this day.. This will also give us time for our own discussion, update and forward planning for the rest if the year.
The following day is the monthly walk day and I am sure that you will be receiving an update on that very soon.
In addition to this on Thursday 23rd August I have rescheduled a leisurely stroll around Mold Town to take in some of its historic landmarks finishing with some refreshment at one of the many cafes/pubs of the groups choosing. I will leave this flexible depending on which route we take but we will meet at the Fat Boar Pub on Chester Road as this is near to the bus station for any of you travelling by bus and set off at 2pm. We were due to have this event in December when you may remember a very heavy snowfall scuppered our plans. No chance of that in August but fingers crossed it wont be to hot or too wet. We can always enjoy some social time together and go to one of the local cafes if the weather isn't too good.
I hope to see you at some of the events and names are still being taken for the September trip to Hanson in Padeswood on the afternoon of Tuesday the 18th.
kind regards
Moira

I'm sure many of you will remember this great lady of Mold and may be able to share some memories on here of her. She attained the mbe for her voluntary work and service to the community of Mold. She was presented to the Queen when she visited Mold church, she is past Chair and President of mold committee of north west cancer research charity and her strong campaigning spirit contributed to us keeping our community hospital and xray services when it was threatened with closure. Mold owes a great debt of gratitude to Beryl who sadly passed away last year. This lovely tribute afternoon has been arranged for those s who may wish to remember her indefatigable spirit and raise money for North West cancer research .
