Just to say that I am now much better and should be back at work full time from Monday and we will be back to regular working hours. A big thank you to my wonderful friends who helped to keep the practice partially open during my absence. Another big thank you to my lovely customers for their patience while we had short hours and reduced service. And the biggest thank you of all to my incredible spouse who saw me through a really difficult time.

Independent practices are rated higher than multiples by consumers according to a Which survey of over 6000 people. They asked members to rate their opticians on areas such as price, value for money and customer service. Independent practices, who were grouped together in the results received the maximum five stars for customer service, thorough sight testing, product quality and the store environment. Is your sight test due? See if you agree with Which and book with us to experience our friendly service.

Are you one of the 72% of people who are not using their eye drops safely or effectively? At Focus In we offer a dedicated specialist Eye Drop User Review to ensure your installation technique is both safe and effective. Instilling eye drops correctly is neither intuitive or necessarily easy, there are a number of challenges and issues that can play a part, some of which are: Positioning bottle to not miss the eye. Not touching the eye/lids with the bottle. Squeezing the bott...le too much or not enough. When to put the eye drops in. How to use with other drops. What are the side effects of your drops. How can you minimise possible systemic and eye side effects? Please express your interest in a Eye Drop User Review - as this is a pilot project unique to this practice there is NO CHARGE to you or the NHS.

At high altitudes you would be exposed to even more intense UV rays made worse by the glare off the snow. Invest in good quality sun protection before setting out for the slopes.

As recently reported on BBC news, the latest advances in headlight technology are causing a problem due to the intensity and brightness of some new cars headlight designs. An RAC Opinion Panel survey of over 2,000 motorists1 found that as many as two-thirds (65%) of motorists say they regularly get dazzled by oncoming headlights, even though they are dipped. ZEISS DriveSafe Lenses are specifically designed for those who want to feel safer & more comfortable when driving with... their everyday lenses. Its design is based on consumer market research that showed there are three main challenges for drivers; poor visibility in low light conditions, glare from oncoming cars & difficulty in refocussing when the eyes switch between the road, dashboard and mirrors. Glare, especially from oncoming car headlights can be a significant risk, reducing the visibility of objects & sensitivity of the eye to contrast. Furthermore, discomfort glare from oncoming Xenon / HID or LED headlamps is worse than that experienced by older halogen type headlamps. This is further demonstrated by the findings from the RAC Opinion Panel survey. Studies have also shown relationship between the amount of blue light in the glare source and the amount of discomfort glare that is experienced2,3. ZEISS DuraVision® DriveSafe Coating, partially reflects the offending wavelengths & reduces perceived glare. In fact, 64% fewer test drivers reported issues with perceived glare when wearing ZEISS DuraVision® DriveSafe Coating than with other premium AR coatings. A video discussing the ‘Glare Effect’ is available for download from the ZEISS portal or on YouTube. In addition, a range of other supporting videos, images & in-store collateral is also available for download on the ZEISS portal.

Bad Blinker? Regular blinking is crucial for healthy eyes, with every blink your eyes are refreshed, clearing the cornea, the transparent front of the eye. The problem is that when we are really concentrating on something, particularly a computer screen, we forget to blink and the eyes become dry. When concentrating on using screens, smartphones or even when driving our blink rate goes down from 22 to 6 times per minute. When using phones or screens remember the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes look up for 20 seconds at something at least 20 feet away OR think of the Enter key as a blink instruction. For those that can never escape the discomfort of dry irritated eyes ask about our specialist Dry Eye Clinic

Winter can be especially difficult for those who experience itchy or dry eyes, even when people don't suffer from this all year round, the cold can bring on new problems that may make your eyes uncomfortable. How can you keep your eyes healthy during the Winter months? 1. Don't get too close to heat sources - having heat on through the Winter can cause dry eyes , however sitting further away from heaters and radiators can make a huge difference. You could also use a humidifi...er, which helps to regulate the airflow which keeps your eyes happy. 2.Look after your diet. The same as the rest of our bodies, eyes feel better when we have the correct fuel and eating healthily doesn't only help but can keep them from feeling achy or drying out. Don't forget to drink plenty of fluids and try adding some omega 3 fatty acids to improve function. 3. When snow falls put on your shades. Snow or ice reflects those UV rays that can cause damage to your eyes.If you treated yourself to some new ones this Summer get some more wear out of them and protect your eyes. For those who particularly suffer with sore eyes at this time of year ask us about our Dry Eye Clinic and benefit from our specialist expert advice.
