Forget-Me-Not Chorus

Described by one chorister as ‘a spa for the soul', the Forget-me-not Chorus uses the power of song to support those living with or alongside dementia. Our work - in care home, community and hospital settings - empowers and connects people in a way that is unique and life-affirming. Our pioneering approach uses music as a tool for meaningful communication and engagement in the present, not just as a tool for reminiscence. Collaborating with a wide spectrum of professional artists empowers choristers to use their creative voice: stimulating pride, educating others and challenging stigma. By inspiring everyone to participate to the best of their abilities, our work re-connects communities, nourishes relationships and demonstrates the transformational power of song. Our bar is set high in terms of quality and members are challenged to learn new pieces, defying their condition to deliver an extraordinary level of music. Participant focused, we continue to respond musically to the diversity ‘in the room', reflecting and celebrating choristers' heritage through our choice of repertoire. Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to connect with our participants in a number of ways, including: weekly virtual rehearsals via Zoom for community and care home choristers; publicly accessible films provided free of charge www. forgetmenotchorus.com/care; and through interactive outdoor sessions in care home and hospital settings. We have recognised the power and potential of online delivery to reach an unlimited geographical area and, as such, it will remain part of our post-pandemic offer.
