it is looking Awesome & cannot wait for the open day now
Loved walking around Friars Walk this evening. Felt quite emotional seeing the difference it's made to the city centre. We've been waiting a long time for this & it was totally worth it. Well done to everyone involved. Your hard work has paid off!
I love friars walk. Yes it may not be as big as Cardiff or Bristol shopping centres but Newport now has most of the shops it needs. It's lovely on a summers day to walk down the riverfront into town and even better in the evening with all the pretty lights shining in their glory. Well done to all involved. It's great to see Newport busy and thriving again after too long as quite frankly being a dump!!!
Having lived in Newport most of my life, I felt really disorientated walking around Newport, but in the best way! It didn't feel like Newport as we know it at all. Much needed for people who want to go to Newport but there just isn't the shops/restaurants so we end up going further afield. Much welcome addition and I look forward to seeing it grow.
Being a Newport resident and seeing how the town centre has declined over the years, this was a welcome breath of fresh air for Newport. Town was buzzing on Saturday, let's hope this keeps up and it wasn't only curiosity for all the people in the town centre today and we all support the businesses. Only downside is that no free parking, only one hour now in Kingsway and Friars walk car parks, there should have been an incentive for parking charges, this is where you will be clobbered as it is not cheap. you need more than an hour, and make sure the ticket machines are working, yesterday (Friday) in Kingsway there were long queues as not all the new machines were working. People will still go to Cwmbran and Cribbs Causeway were there is free parking.
Awesome, exactly what Newport needs. Great shops, great places to eat looking forward to the bowling being added, really is a great place.
Amazed today by the transformation of Newport town centre, absolutely amazed, well done newport :)
Absolutely fantastic. Well done all involved especially everybody who has worked 24/7 this week. Even better we have more shops to look forward to as they continue. Well done.
Absolutely brilliant! Well done all. Shops are great and the atmosphere was really fab xx
First visit to Friars Walk this morning. Liked what I saw but more shops needed.
Really nice however some bins inside n maybe a bench or two inside went with my nan she wanted somewhere to sit but we had to go all the way out and then back in to finish. Other than that it's lovely can't wait for bowling
Can someone tell me if Cosmos is open please?
First visit and found lots of teenagers hanging around in groups out side the shops :-( , so went to Gourmet Burger especially for a veggi burger...they didn't have any. They have given me a coupon for free chips on my next visit if i go back. Will try again another day maybe!
Why are people not given access to the toilets when the the Center's doors are opened in the morning. There is absolutely no reason to prevent early bus passengers from using these facilities. The two barriers are left in place until guards decide to remove them. Timing varies with whoever happens to be on shift.
The car park really lets this otherwise fantastic shopping centre down! I've been waiting just past my space for 10 minutes trying to get out! What an awful place to put a car park! The exits and entrances are too tight and too close to a busy road!
My first experience of Friars Walk: wetter than I would expect from a 21st century shopping centre. Well it was essentially only two buildings joined together by a tent after all. Wagamamas was what brought us there, but it wasn't even open yet.
Just come back from Friars Walk Newport , what a disappointment. Car parking is horrendous and very poorly planned. Existing is a nightmare because you enter onto the carriageway, waiting for the traffic to clear is a nightmare because the road is so busy.
It's a bit like Cabbots Circus in Bristol. I was expecting something like St David's in Cardiff but instead got a row of shops with an open roof so is windy, cold and you can still get wet. The one thing it has going for it is a good selection of restaurants, not all open and Debenhams, that would be the only reason I would visit the centre again, when the cheaper rate of parking charges start which is at 6. Cwmbran shopping has everything Newport has plus it's free to park.
It's a pity that Newport 'City' Council didn't put a bit more thought into this project could have ended up with something really special and worth visiting.
Had to listen to the terrible racket from this shopping complex for the last 4 evenings, I live in Beechwood and can here everyword from the public address system, it must be terrible living closer, how inconsiderate of the management to inflict this on your neighbours, seems that profit comes before people.
Great introduction of new shops and restaurants however a complete and utter lack of consideration given to parking and driving around Newport. Newport traffic is at a standstill!!! Sort it out!!! At least in Bristol or Cardiff there's amble parking and minimum congestion on the roads leading up to the shopping centres.....this is Newports half arsed attempt to compete and rush to get something that isn't finished out there. Poor planning!!!!
