**Currently Closed due to Coronavirus**

Garw Valley Railway Description

The Garw Valley is in the centre of the South Wales coal field. The opening of the Garw railway line in the 1870's made the valley’s huge coal reserves accessible and transportable. The railway currently isn't open for public use but progress is being made. Presently the Garw Valley Railway Society are working to rebuild the line. The first 20m of platform building at Pontycymer was completed in Summer 2016, with now a few final details to add. The Garw Valley Railway wishes conserve the industrial heritage of the South Wales Valleys, to protect and improve the environment and to promote tourism as a means of economic development and regeneration for the Garw and surrounding Valleys. In 2016 we also obtained the lease to the local community route (path), in which we are enthused to improve biodiversity and helping to maintain its safe upkeep for all users.

Wonderful place, so much excellent work being undertaken. Will be spectacular when running it will be truly amazing. All the best of luck and support.

Well worth a visit, destined to get even better.

We are almost there. Next Wednesday another 50 yards of track will be cleared, subject to weather of course.

Totally Love seeing the trains of wales where my great Granparents & Grandparents were from.

User

Lovely to see the progress which has been made since our previous visits. Can't wait to see what is achieved in the future.

Lovely having a visit with my daughter this morning. Listening to the history of the locomotives and trains. Exciting to think the benefits when up & running and all the hard work being done. Good Luck!

User

Lots of hard work is being done at this beautiful location.

I was given the run of the place to film all around the site, even allowed to climb on to some exhibits. They need a lot of support, donations, help, etc. The only thing that annoys me about heritage railways is they put sterling hard work into getting the job done 'without' any financial help from councils etc, but yet when they start running, they have a local council member to 'cut the ribbon' as if 'they' contributed to it?

Great place to visit!!!! And lots of hard work being done!!!

User

Expertly, and carefully, bringing the Railway back to Railway Terrace since 2014.

User

Beautiful location with hard working people. I recommend a visit.

User

An ambitious project which is feasible because most of the track is still there - although it will need Ar army of volunteers with machetes and flame throwers to clear the vegetation!

Deserves to succeed
