Gorlech Description
Claire and Paul of gorlech are designer-makers based in Abergorlech in the beautiful Brechfa Forest on the banks of the River Cothi in rural West Wales.
We are very fortunate to live and work in such a bountiful area. We have a small business providing a local gardening service, and this - along with woodland conservation work - gives us access to an excellent supply of British hardwood (such as oak, birch, hazel and cherry) that may otherwise have ended up in someone's firewood pile.
We are also blessed to live near the West Wales coastline of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, with it's plentiful supply of driftwood (albeit a bit battered by it's journey across the Irish Sea). Certainly, there is nothing better than finding a piece of driftwood that looks unremarkable on the beach, only to get it home, slice it open and reveal it's beauty within. . .
We know it’s a cliché, but, for us, there really is no such thing as ‘waste’. Wherever we can, we like to re-fashion, re-cycle and re-use materials passed over by others - turning them into functional items for the home or for you to give as gifts to your family and friends.
