***MEET THE TEAM MONDAY***
Name:Winnie Minney Role: Fluffy Friend
Q. How long have you worked at Greenhill Manor Care Home?... A. 1 year, I’ve been working here since I had my injections.
Q. What does your job entail? A. My father is the Customer Relationship Manager and I go to work with him a few days each week. I haven’t received a payslip yet, so I don’t know if I technically have a job; I just go to work with him and spend time with the residents.
Q. What aspects of your role do you enjoy most? A. A lot of the residents at Greenhill Manor love animals and used to have pets, I love seeing people’s reactions when they see me coming through the corridors and I also love being smothered in cwtches. Sometimes I get to go for walks with the residents, most days I will sit with my friend Brian while he has a latte in the café area, this is one of the highlights of my day.

Name: David Rogers Role: Maintenance Operative
Q. How long have you worked at Greenhill Manor? A. Ten Years
... Q. What does your job entail? A. I am part of the Maintenance Team and we do a lot more than just maintenance work around the home and its grounds. We are carers, friends, co-workers. I enjoy the maintenance side of my role as I have always had a passion for fixing things, the day to day jobs range from helping the residents personalise their rooms to completing regulatory checks.
Q. What aspects of your role do you enjoy most? A. I enjoy interacting with the residents, I will tell anyone a joke that will listen, some of the residents look forward to these, so I always make sure I have a few new ones in my arsenal. We have recently started a project in the garden, in which some of the residents are building a shed for the new allotment. This is not going to be a standard wooden shed though; we have called on the expertise of one of the residents who was an acclaimed builder, to help us design and make a concrete shed to keep the tools in. In my ten years, there have been a lot of highlights but this is just one of my highlights at the moment.

Some of you may know that we recently held a variety show at Greenhill Manor Care Home where the Greenhill Manor Choir were chosen to represent the home in the Welsh Final of “Hallmarks Got Talent”.
Yesterday we celebrated the very first Hallmarks Got Talent Final and we were over the moon that our home was chosen to host the event.
Unfortunately; the Greenhill choir didn’t win first place; the competition was incredible. We would like to congratulate the deserved winner, M...ark Arrowsmith, Lifestyle Leader from Regency House Care Home in Cardiff.
It was such an action-packed day that we were not able to take many photographs (there was a professional photographer so we will share the photos when we have them back). We did manage to snap one of two of the judges sharing a moment, Idris Browning and Operations Director of Hallmark Care Homes – Cheryl Wanklyn.

Q. How long have you worked at Greenhill Manor? A. Ten years (today marks my tenth anniversary with Greenhill)
... Q. What does your job entail? A. As a Nurse, I am responsible for administering medication along with lots of other clinical tasks. When I am on duty, I normally run the shift while supporting the care team, I also have to collaborate with Doctors, Social Workers and family members.
Q. What aspects of your role do you enjoy most? A. I love helping the residents style their hair. A lot of the ladies like to have their hair in a plait, so I help them with this. I am from another country and my friends at Greenhill Manor have become like my Welsh family, it really is a lovely place to work.

Today we celebrated National Care Home Open Day.
We held a showcase of the art the residents at Greenhill Manor Care Home have created. Both written word and through crafts.
We were fortunate to have Sarah from Creative Mojo join us in our celebrations. Sarah held an art class in the café/reception area where residents and their families were invited to join in.
... Some of you may know that many of the residents have immersed themselves in a creative writing session’s recently. The outcome of these sessions was on display for everyone to read.
To finish our Friday off in style, we had a comedian/singer in the café area. When the residents were not laughing hysterically at his jokes, they were dancing to his music!
All in all it’s been a rather spectacular Friday!

Name: Heather Haines Role: Care Assistant
Q. How long have you worked at Greenhill Manor?... A. One year.
Q. What aspects of your role do you enjoy most? A. I enjoy spending quality time with the residents. That could be doing things like; having a chat over a “cuppa”, helping them pick out their outfits for the day or even going on shopping trips with them. It is like spending time with friends.
Q. What made you decide to join the Greenhill Manor Team? A. I have always wanted to become a Registered Nurse and my previous jobs (though I enjoyed them) did not give me the insight into the profession I want to work in for the rest of my career. I had heard great things about Greenhill Manor and I knew this was where I wanted to gain vital experience to help in my journey to become a Nurse. I have studied hard in college and I am extremely excited to start my Adult Nursing Degree with the University of South Wales in September. Whilst studying, I will continue to work at Greenhill Manor Care Home as I have made so many friends with the team and residents along with gaining a wealth of experience.

In the average time it takes to bake a batch of cakes, six people in the UK will develop dementia.
At Greenhill Manor Care Home today, we took part in “Cupcake Day” to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. We are still counting the donations and will share our total with you in the week.
£50 can fund the Alzheimer’s Society to be there for five people, for five hours of in-depth support from our Helpline team at a time of crisis.
... £150 could pay for two people who are living with dementia, to attend Singing for the Brain® sessions for one year, where they and their carers can come together for an hour each week to sing and dance with music.
£610 would pay for a Doctoral Training Centre to run for one day, helping up to eight PhD researchers to carry out ground breaking study in dementia research.
This is a nationwide initiative that we are proud to support. We would like to thank Amanda Francis our amazing Lifestyles Team Lead who is definitely worthy of the “Hollywood Handshake” for her marvelous cakes.
If you are wondering, they taste even better than they look.

Cyfarthfa Castle is one of the most frequently visited free tourist attractions in Wales, it just so happens to be on our doorstep.
Residents of Cocklebird House (a specialist community within Greenhill Manor Care Home for people living with dementia), had a fabulous day, taking in the scenic views, feeding the birds and chatting all the way around the around the lake.
Many people have preconceptions of what it’s like to live in a care home, lets change those preconceptions... together…

We all have fond memories of special days out in the past. At Greenhill Manor Care Home we are committed to making new memories.
This week, Team Members arranged to come to work on their days off to accompany some of the residents on a day trip to Parc Bryn Bach, where they walked the circumference of the lake, feeding the birds along the way and reminiscing of day trips with their family and friends.
We are proud of the team at Greenhill Manor and it’s the little gestures ...like this that have a huge impact on the wellbeing of the residents who live here.
