Hafod Boeth

My home is a beautiful, detached private residence, over 150 years old but with modern facilities. Set in tranquil countryside, offering amazing mountain & sea views.

The House:
A comfortable detached house with kitchen, living room, sitting /dining room, conservatory, three bedrooms (1x king size, 1x double and 2x single beds) and one toilet /bathroom with a large bath and electric shower.

The house is homely and welcoming, it sleeps six within the three bedrooms. A sofa bed in the sitting room can accommodate a further two 'temporary' guests.

The conservatory is ideal for either dining or relaxing in, taking in the garden, countryside and sea views.

The house is double glazed, with oil central heating and features dressed stonework, exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace, two multi-fuel stoves, private gardens and ample off road parking.

The outside patio area is ideal for eating 'al fresco' and to unwind, take in the views and fresh air.

Guests are welcome to stroll around the gardens. There is a small pond in the garden and so children will need to be supervised.

Please note that Hafod Boeth is down a narrow country lane and so extra wide vehicles may find it difficult to approach.

The Neighbourhood:
Hafod Boeth, which translates as 'summer retreat', is set in a beautiful rural location, surrounded by farmland, above the village of Groeslon, amidst beautiful countryside, with panoramic sea views and views across to Caernarfon, Anglesey and Holyhead beyond.

The blue flag beach and dunes at Dinas Dinlle lie within a 20 minute drive and can be seen from the front of the property, whilst open countryside is to the rear, with walks into the hillside that culminate in the impressive mountain scenery of the Snowdonia National Park.

The property is the ideal home for beach lovers, walkers, cyclists, history buffs, naturalists, steam train enthusiasts, sport lovers, thrill seeking 'adrenalin junkies' or for those who just prefer to be a 'home bird' and do nothing.

There are several smaller shops, a bank /cashpoint and post office in the nearby village of Penygroes. The nearest pub is just over one mile away.

For the more active, leisure centres are nearby in Caernarfon, Bangor, Pwllheli and Porthmadog.

There are excellent restaurants in Criccieth, Caernarfon, Bangor and Menai Bridge, serving a variety of local and international cuisine. And if it's a cafe you need, for coffee and cake, there's plenty to tickle your taste buds.

All major supermarkets are catered for in Caernarfon and Bangor with a Waitrose at Menai Bridge and for those looking for a bargain, there are weekly markets in Caernarfon, Porthmadog and Pwllheli.

Pwllheli, with its marina, is the gateway to the Llyn Peninsula to include the villages of Llanbedrog (and its Iron Man), Abersoch, Aberdaron and Nefyn, with an array of hidden coves, including Hells Mouth, Porth Oer (Whistling Sands) and Porthdinllaen.

For a more active social life, there are an abundance of pubs to visit and for nightlife, head to Caernarfon or Bangor. There is a cinema in Caernarfon and the nearest multiscreen is at Llandudno Junction.

North Wales is famous for its history and castles and you will not be disappointed with what's on the doorstep. The Royal Caernarfon castle, the imposing Conwy and Harlech castles, the beautiful Beaumaris castle, the opulent Penrhyn castle or the rugged ruin of Criccieth castle.

Alternatively, visit the David Lloyd George museum in Llanystumdwy, learn about the saints pilgrimage to Bardsey Island, the story of Beddgelert and the history to Penmon Priory (including Puffin Island).

Other worthy sites of interest include Portmeirion (Sir Clough Williams-Ellis), Plas Newydd, Thomas Telford’s Menai and Conwy Suspension Bridges, Nant Gwrtheyrn (Heritage and Welsh Language centre) and South Stack Lighthouse to name but a few.

For garden lovers, if you need more than those at Hafod Boeth, the spectacular Bodnant Gardens, Plas Brondanw, Plas-yn-Rhiw and Plas Newydd are only a short drive away.

For animal lovers, there’s lots to see along the coast (eg. seals & dolphins), in the woodlands (eg. red squirrels) and the mountains (eg. Birds of Prey) but also try the Pili Palas, Foel Farm, Anglesey Sea Zoo and the Welsh Mountain Zoo.

For the outdoor enthusiast, there's lots to choose from; surfing, swimming, fishing, climbing, caving, segways, zip wires, horse riding, cycling and many nature watching activities to choose from. Want more, try the Bear Grylls experience in Llanystumdwy.

The seaside towns of Barmouth and Llandudno are worth a visit, or escape to the hills via Llanberis, Capel Curig and Betws-y-Coed.

The beaches at Dinas Dinlle, Newborough, Morfa Bychan (Blackrock Sands), Harlech and a little further afield, Dyffryn Ardudwy are well worth a visit.

And if you want to travel further, the port of Holyhead gives you access to Ireland.

Getting Around:
There is a frequent bus service to the towns of Caernarfon and Porthmadog.

There is ample parking for cars at the property and it is easily accessible by car, only minutes from the A487 coast road (which connects to the A55), giving easy access to Bangor, Caernarfon, Pwllheli, Criccieth, the Llyn Peninsula and the majestic Snowdonia National Park.

Whilst there is no nearby mainline railway station, the nearest being Bangor, Criccieth & Porthmadog, there is the world famous 'Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland' railway. This runs from Caernarfon (via the nearby station at Dinas) up to Beddgelert, taking in breathtaking scenery, before dropping down to Porthmadog and then travelling beyond to end at Bleanau Ffestiniog.

Other Things to Note:
Hafod Boeth is offered on a self-catering basis and bedding /towels are provided.

The property is down a very narrow country lane and it would be prudent not to arrive in the dark due to the absence of street lighting.

Wifi is available in the property and up to 9 devices can connect to this, but it is via 'mobile broadband' and so the signal strength does vary from 4G to nothing, depending on time of year /weather etc. Whilst the wifi will cope with email and web browsing, it is not designed for downloading movies or other large files, especially as there is a monthly limit on download data availability.
