Herbrandston & Narberth Dental Health Practices Description

Herbrandston Dental Health Practice Ltd opened and started treating its first patients in June 2004. Initially a part time practice it quickly expanded to the three surgery, full time practice it is today, with treatments now all encompassing: from dental implants to teeth whitening, from orthodontics to dental sedation, from quality teeth repairs and restorations to quality denture work. All under one roof with dentists who all have qualifications and interests over and above those simply required to be a dental surgeon. Which dentist? Quite simple: the one best qualified to treat your specific problem. As a result, uniquely, you may see more than one dentist to help you get the smile you deserve.

The practice is situated in the tastefully converted buildings of the Old Coach House of what used to be the village Rectory next to Saint Mary's Church in Herbrandston. A lovely old stone built building dating back to circa 1790; the dental practice successfully manages to harmonise the old with the ultra modern, simplicity with comfort.

Situated within the quaint village of Herbrandston , an easy 5-minute drive from the port town of Milford Haven, the practice enjoys the peaceful and beatific surrounds of the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park. The air of peaceful tranquility is enhanced by the practice location: within the 4 acre pastoral (wooded and gardened) site of the Old Rectory building itself. Overall an ideal setting for a Dental Practice priding itself on its care and relaxation of its patients.

Show off your smile with confidence!
A new poll has shown that just over half of us are made to feel anxious about their smile, with the biggest culprits being TV and social media to feed our anxieties.
People overestimate what a healthy smile should look like, and it has a negative effect on how confident we are.
... Having clean teeth with healthy gums is far more important than the colour or shape of teeth. Focus on your oral health above aesthetics, and learn to smile more!

Keeping your mouth clean, could help to reduce your chance of a stroke.
A recent study has discovered bacteria normally found within the mouth in blood clots that had caused strokes.
This is part of a larger study that has also found the bacteria in similar clots that had caused heart attacks, aneurysms and thromboses.
... This raises the question as to whether a significant presence of oral bacteria is a contributing factor to these conditions.

Remember, teeth whitening can only legally be carried out by dental professional
Its always a shame when we see cases like this. caused by using whitening products that are not suitable within the mouth.
It could have been much worse too. Remember to get the advice of your dentist before considering whitening, and make sure you use someone qualified.

Robots may be the future of teeth cleaning!
Researchers have developed a novel way of removing plaque deposits on teeth, without all the scraping normally associated with a dental cleaning.
Using iron oxide nanoparticles and magnets, a joint team of dental and engineering researchers have found a way of breaking down the biofilms that are created within the mouth.
... The next step is to get into clinical trials within the human mouth!

Poor Oral Health has now been linked with problems developed later in life.
Recent studies have shown that frailty later in life can be a consequence of poor oral health. Some of these links are due to reduced dexterity, making brushing harder, or medications that cause dry mouth.
This can then lead to further issues that can significantly affect a persons health, such as difficulty eating, pain or impeded speech.
... Further resources are needed in order to tackle this issue in an ageing population.

A new treatment could regenerate gum tissue and prevent tooth loss!
Long term gum disease is a significant factor in tooth loss, as it directly affects the tissues supporting the teeth themselves.
Researchers have developed a membrane that fits in the space between gum and tooth helping to regenerate the damaged tissues.
... This is doubly important as gum disease has also been linked to strokes, cardiovascular diseases and even dementia.

Schools in the UK have been found the worst for educating children about their oral health...
Recent studies have found that a shocking less than 30% of UK children are being given instruction or lessons about the importance of good oral care and hygiene.
This is further shown by the number one reason for children's hospital admissions being due to tooth decay (something that has cost over £200 million since 2012)
... Support is needed at a school and home to help avert this current issue.

Back to normal from tomorrow!

The Practices will be shut on Monday to carry out our annual life support training!
This just refreshes all our skills in how to best look after anyone who may become critically unwell in the practice.
For emergencies, just call our normal number otherwise we will be back to normal from Tuesday.

Due to a few unseen circumstances, Narberth has found itself without any dentists today!
Luckily this gives a great chance to do a spot of redecorating and touch ups. Nice to have that fresh paint smell.

Prehistoric Dental Care
A prehistoric ancestor has recently been found to have carried out prehistoric dental care in an attempt to relieve themselves from dental discomfort.
A Neanderthal who lived over 130,000 years ago appears to have been using toothpicks to help with impacted teeth.
... Scratch marks were discovered, either caused by bone or stiff grasses, on and around the problem teeth. This also gives new evidence to show that Neanderthals were more intelligent than previously thought.
It really goes to show just how long we have been occupied with getting the right smile!

This weekend saw the first round of planting for our Implant a Tree initiative.
After clearing a significant number of brambles we were able to plant around 40 new trees, ready for a summer of growth.
Of course, we also had some furry help throughout the day. Look forward to updates through the year.

As you may know, we have a very old vault underneath the Narberth practice.
It has unfortunately been flooded for a bit of time with around 6 inches of water, though this has fluctuated even higher.
Yesterday Liam spent a bit of time digging out an old "window" in order to pump it out. Now the water is out we are hoping to be able to clean it out and preserve a bit of the historical character!
... As you can see we still have the old vault in situ, and you can even see how high the water has been in the past!
