Makaton ❤ We are always trying to encourage our children to express themselves in many different ways using their 100 languages ❤ One of our aims is to use Welsh and Makaton in our everyday practice ❤ Here are Discoverers demonstrating both Welsh and Makaton singing our 'Bore Da' song during our morning together time. Hawthorn berry ketchup ❤️ Today we did some foraging to make ketchup for our camp fire hot dogs! First of all we talked about how you must always check with a grown up before you pick and eat things in forest school. We found the Hawthorne tree covered in red berries. The Hawthorne is know as the Heart tree as the berries are good for the heart ❤️... Both berries and leaves are edible and were known as ‘bread and butter’ to those who walked the hedgerows and snacked on the tree in ye olden days🤓 We picked and de-stalked the berries whilst singing and thanking the tree for letting us have its fruit. After cooking with vinegar, it was it was time to mash,squish and squash the pulp through the sieve to make the ketchup. Sugar was added on the fire as it bubbles away. There weren’t many brave enough to try it, but the process was lots of fun! Tool School ❤ Pioneers loved using the hand drill to make our wooden spinners last week and Oscar had observed that the wooden discs were like wheels and asked if we could make cars out of wood. And so we did just that ❤ The children carefully selected the pieces that they needed and talked about what they were going to make... and from these simple shapes created a bus, a lorry, a train and a racing car. Autumn ❤ Some of this weeks provision from Pioneers ❤ They have been enjoying searching Forest school for "clues" and bringing back their finds to investigate more carefully and share with friends. We are trying to encourage them to make marks to record their favourite find so we have charcoal from our campfire, pastels, chunky markers, biro and crayons to choose from...❤ They have been snipping wool to weave to make spiders webs and loved using the scissors so weve left lots... of different materials for them to snip away...❤ They have also been fascinated by a magnet they found in our cabin so weve put some magnetic coloured tiles on the light table with assorted metal objects and magnets hidden amongst the Autumn coloured lentils....❤ All sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon for a super sensory exploration ❤ #markmaking #earlyyearsideas #invitationtoplay #environmentasthirdteacher #autumn #outdoorlearning #nature #developingcuriouslearners #learningthroughplay #bestdayeveryday #homesteadnursery @ Homestead Nursery
