WHAT A WAY TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL DOG DAY
Today is officially National Dog Day, and to celebrate we have chosen this beautiful photo of recently adopted Wendy the Newfoundland. She came in to our care after being seized by a Local Authority under the Animal Welfare Act. She had clearly been used breeding and had very recently had puppies. Her coat was a mess and she had to be shaved right back, and she also had a skin infection and ear problems.
Thanks to the wonderful care of the rescue centre team, and the amazing donations towards her vet care from our supporters her life has now been transformed. This photo says it all.

He's absolutely mental in the nights even when he's had his walk but we clip his lead on and then comes and cwtches on the sofa. RIVER ARRIVES AT HOPE RESCUE
River was spotted being thrown from a car in Torfaen last Friday. Thankfully some concerned locals managed to catch him and and hold him until the dog warden arrived. The poor boy was covered in fleas, underweight, had a dose of tapeworm and a severe limp on his back left leg.
This afternoon he was welcomed by the caring staff team at Hope Rescue and he's already settled well into one of our cosy kennels.
... He's had x-rays at the vets who have diagnosed severe osteoarthritis and congenital hip dysplasia, so he has been prescribed pain medication to keep him comfortable.
We've named him River as he was found in Torfaen with means 'Grey River' in old Welsh.
The current estimate for his vet treatment including x-rays and surgery is £1,750 which will be covered by Hope Rescue as the local authority budget only covers basic care. Hope Rescue is committed to caring for every unclaimed stray from Torfaen County (as well as Bridgend, RCT, Merthyr and the west end of the Vale of Glamorgan). We receive no core Government funding and therefore we would really appreciate your support to help us to care for River.
We are higely thankful to the amazing community from the 'Dog's of Torfaen' Facebook group who have already raised over £1200 to cover River's vet bils and get him on the road to recovery. Their compassion and generosity has really touched the team at Hope Rescue.
Any funds raised over and above River's final treatment bill will be allocated to our 'Healthy Hounds' fund which allows us to provide urgent vet treatment for stray dogs in need.
If you would like to make a donation to his care at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/saver iver
Thank you to everyone who has supported River so far, we will keep you updated on his progress.

AMAZING NEWS FOR COCO AND A THANK YOU
Today was a big day for Coco and we have been on pins waiting for news. She had been at the vets all day. First she had her x-rays to see if she had any more tumours - and the good news is she didn't! She then had two tumours removed, both of which had burst. The poor girl also had most of her broken tail amputated. Further skin scrapes revealed she had demodectic mange. Her ears are still sore so she has more treatment for them. But over...all this is fantastic news and so much better than we hoped for. She is back on her foster couch tired but happy. Happy tears all round at the centre today!
Thank you so much to everyone who donated towards her vet costs. Our ethos is to take every single stray from the 5 Local Authorities we help, irrespective of age, breed or medical condition. We never know who is going to walk through the door next. This week it has included both Coco and River, both abandoned in a terrible condition with huge vet bills. Your support has been incredible though and we genuinely couldn't do what we do without you.

A BAN ON THIRD PARTY PUPPY SALES
The Government has announced proposals to ban the sale of puppies and kittens by third party sellers such as pet shops in England. A huge well done in particular to the #LucysLaw campaign team for all their hard work. We are hopeful Welsh Government will follow suit and the proposals will extend to Wales.
This is great news for the fight against puppy farming. Hopefully the next step will be to regulate animal sanctuaries to ensure unscrupu...lous dealers don't just set up as rescues.
