Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) yw'r corff sy'n gyfrifol am ddatblygu, hyrwyddo a marchnata cig coch o Gymru. Rydym yn gweithio gyda phob sector o'r diwydiant cig coch yng Nghymru - o'r ffermwyr i'r archfarchnadoedd, i ddatblygu'r diwydiant ac i ddatblygu marchnadoedd proffidiol i Gig Oen Cymru, Cig Eidion Cymru a phorc o Gymru.

Our cross-continental marketing marathon continues this week as our team promotes Welsh Lamb to potential Italian buyers at Tutto Food in Milan. Italy is a well-established market for Welsh Lamb, and the country also has a growing appetite for Welsh Beef. Here we are focusing on maintaining relationships with existing customers as well as introducing the products to potential new buyers.

This week, our marketing team are at Hofex in Hong Kong. It is Asia’s leading food and hospitality tradeshow and a platform for exhibitors to meet high-quality food and hospitality traders from all over the world. HCC will be working alongside other UK levy boards and red meat processors, but reinforcing the messages and credentials of the Welsh Lamb and Beef brands.

The latest lamb carcase classification results from Welsh abattoirs show that more and more farmers are producing meat to the highest market specification. The statistics released by Welsh processors for 2018 show a positive performance by the industry. This includes significant reductions in the numbers of animals which were over-fat, and continued increases in the numbers which hit the highest desired conformation. A poll commissioned by HCC has revealed that people may be cutting back too much on red meat.
Official government guidelines say that adults can eat 500g a week of cooked red meat, or an average 70g a day. 53% of people think that the recommended intake is half that figure. HCC has welcomed a report which highlights the benefits of livestock markets to the rural economy. The report, compiled by an independent analyst for the Livestock Auctioneers Association (LAA), asserts that: 👉 markets across England and Wales contribute a total of £3.42 billion to the local economy when indirect expenditure is included 👉 they provide employment for over 3,000 people.

Did you hear about the EAT Lancet report that was published earlier this year? It claimed that a healthy and sustainable diet for a growing global population should predominantly include plant-based foods and, argued for a reduction in meat consumption. This caused an uproar in the livestock industry and amongst experts who advocate for a healthy, balanced diet. It now seems that leading public organisations are backing down. According to the British Medical Journal, the Worl...d Health Organization has pulled its support for the EAT Lancet diet after a leading UN ambassador questioned the scientific basis of the diet and said it was “nutritionally deficient and dangerous to human health.” #bringonthebalance
