The Lifeguard Corps of the Blue Cross Blue Crescent are part of the International Blue Cross and Blue Crescent movement and its International Command (ICBC-Corps). ICBC-Corps of Lifeguards are organised units of skilled volunteers that provide beach lifeguarding services in their local community. The Lifeguard Corps are here to tackle the global epidemic of drowning incidents that claim an estimated 400, 000 lives around the world each year, over half of which are children, and 96% of these drownings happen in low to middle-income countries. Despite the scale of the problem, it is barely recognised and is a hidden epidemic. Our mission is to try to reduce this staggering loss of life.
