About Institute Of Mass Spectrometry, Swansea University

Swansea University has long been established as a centre of excellence for mass spectrometry, a discipline that involves the ionization of a sample to produce either positive or negative ions, which are then accelerated in a vacuum system and the mass of the intact molecule determined. In addition, the masses of fragments produced during the ionisation processes can be determined to give structural information.

Within the Institute of Mass Spectrometry at Swansea University's College of Medicine, there are three main strands:

• EPSRC National Mass Spectrometry Service Centre (NMSSC)

• Research *New PhD studentship*

• Teaching *New course scholarships /bursaries likely to be available for 2012 - apply now! *

For more information, please contact IMS@swansea. ac. uk for general enquiries or mscentre@swansea. ac. uk for NMSSC enquiries.
