We were delighted to welcome Steve Smith back to Interpol, where he appointed as a personal chair in 1992, marking the start of a key period in the Department's development. His Centenary Lecture reflected on that time but also on where we have travelled since then.

If you are in Aberystwyth on 27 March, join the Department's student International Politics society for their next event: Professor Ilan Pappe of Exeter University will be talking about the politics of Palestine and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Calling alumni of the Department - book now for the Centenary Alumni Crisis Games on 3-5 May 2019. Create your own team - get together with 4 or 5 of your fellow alumni and tell us when you book that you want to form a team. Don't miss your chance to relive (and improve on) those great memories...and as a bonus you may get to outwit (or even play as) Putin himself. Booking details in the link below:

We had the chance to ask Sir Steve a question about his time in Aber before the start of his Centenary lecture - here is what he had to say.

On 27 February, BBC Radio Cymru's morning news programme Cyntaf Post was broadcasting live from the Department, with segments examining Brexit, first in conversation with a group of our students and then with Dr Huw Lewis.

We are running a photo competition for students of the Department! Students are invited to submit their photos of student life to zzk@aber.ac.uk. We will post the ones we like on the Department's social media accounts and run polls to determine the prize-winning top three. Winners to be announced on 5 April.

Thought we would share this recent video about undergraduate study in the Department, featuring some of our articulate students. Enjoy.

Professor Ken Booth began his Centenary lecture on 21 February 2019 with the words "We're all in this together". His theme was the need for the discipline of International Relations to grapple with the big questions facing the global community. While we wait for the video of the lecture to be uploaded, take a look at the photo album of the evening, in the photos section here on Facebook or over on the Department's Instagram (interpolaber).

Entitled "International Relations: The Future's Inconvenient Truth", Professor Booth spoke about the importance of International Relations as a discipline as perhaps the only means of finding effective solutions to fundamental questions facing global society.

The next in the Department's lineup of Centenary lectures is our own Professor Ken Booth, who is speaking on the topic: "International Relations: The Future's Inconvenient Truth".
