Intel Zombieload bug fix to slow data centre computers:
Intel has confirmed that new problems discovered with its processor chips mean that some computer owners face a performance slowdown. The company has said that data centres are likely to be worst affected by the fixes required. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-482 78400

Facebook is preparing advertisers for the “clear history” tool that will let people erase their personal data from the social network, affecting ad targeting.
On Tuesday, Facebook announced the long-awaited “clear history” feature would roll out in the coming months. It will allow users to delete data that the social network gathers from websites and apps outside of Facebook, and no longer use that data for advertising.

Could facial recognition cut crime? The Metropolitan Police have been trialling the use of facial recognition in different parts of London, using cameras to scan passers-by to find matches on watch lists.
South Wales Police have used similar technology in more than a dozen trials.

GozNym cyber-crime gang which stole millions busted An international crime gang which used malware to steal $100m (£77m) from more than 40,000 victims has been dismantled. A complex police operation conducted investigations in the US, Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

Global virus fear prompts update for old Windows:
Fears of a massive global computer virus outbreak have prompted Microsoft to issue security updates for very old versions of its Windows software. One patch is for Windows XP, which debuted in 2001 and Microsoft stopped supporting in 2014. Microsoft said the patch closed a hole that could be used to spread a virus.... Malicious hackers exploiting it could kick off a worldwide outbreak like the 2017 Wannacry worm, which hit thousands of machines.
