brilliant treasure trove of interesting things, had to walk around several times and i'm sure I didn't even see all the stuff there. if you like retro or memorabilia its the place to go in Cardiff

User

Treasure trove from the 1940s, wow! I must admit was overcome by all the quirky antiques, art and collections. I literally could stay in this place all day! Lovely place to have in the centre of Cardiff. You do not get places like this anymore! Well worth a visit!

Quite a range over a number of floors. Sells/shows antiques without discrimination to taste or period - so you can probably find anything you're after here.

User

Jacobs Marker is a wonderful place to rummage around for interesting things and on the top floor at the back is the West Wharf gallery run by Liz Cooling. Exhibitions are varied and interesting and the front space is for hire

The cafe is great too. Art is everywhere and everyone is welcoming and friendly

A must visit when in Cardiff, parking can be tricky but I've always been lucky and got one of the spots outside, and even if I didn't would happily pay £5.00 to park, a great selection of militaria means I always come away with some interesting items at a good price so paying a fiver really isn't a big deal (for me anyway). All stall holders are friendly and happy to help as well as share their knowledge. Luckily for me I live 200 miles away otherwise I would be visiting much more frequently and as a result would end up much more skint!

A hidden gem in Cardiff, to think locals and non-locals would miss it! I was visiting here with my father, grandfather and uncle, all of us visiting from Australia except for my uncle, in the run up to Christmas, searching for presents for each other.

Spread over four floors and a basement, Jacob's has many different stalls, you can buy furniture, china, ornaments, war medals and memorabilia, collectibles, vintage toys, jewellery, comic books, video games, clothes, records, and much more!

While the rest of my family was searching for gifts to buy (my uncle came here to buy something for my aunt, if I recall correctly), I decided to have a browse around the eccentric building - I'm so glad I did! I enjoyed browsing the comics, war memorabilia and records, but then I found the stall selling retro video games. Being an avid gamer since I was 6, I was keen to have a look.

Within seconds of entering the gaming stall, which I don't remember the name of, I knew I had struck gold - I found a copy of GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64, inside its original packaging, and with instruction booklet and poster. Being a fairly big Bond fan in addition to a gamer (I still have a working Nintendo 64) I thought to myself, "I'm definitely buying this!" I went up to the friendly man at the counter, gave him fifteen pounds, and one of the best and most revolutionary games for the N64 was mine.

While the rest of my family didn't do so well that day in their Christmas shopping, I was a VERY happy man on the train home from Cardiff that day. Speaking of which, Jacob's is conveniently located a short walk from Cardiff Central station. Along with the castle, atmosphere, Doctor Who Experience, and hot mulled cider from street stands, this is one of my favourite places in Cardiff.

Highly recommended, there is literally something for everyone here. If only I bought Perfect Dark the same day - old games are quite expensive these days!

One my favourite places to explore..always find something I didn't expect to see. .yesterday it was a mummy in a coffin surrounded by a stuffed bear & a goose! 3 floors of everything you can imagine, vintage clothes to antique silver in random places, great fun. There's a great gallery space in the top/roof floor & amazing views of the city. I made a lovely purchase & went home happy. Only Thurs/Fri & Saturdays..everyone should go or it'll go!!

Now here we have what I like to call - and have done to its face so I'm not telling tales out of school - a funny old fish. But don't let me beat around the mulberry bush; this is by no means to its disadvantage. Some say it has too many floors. They may be right. I don't know I was busying myself with other matters that constituted far more the juicer end of a haunch of venison. But I think there are four. Funny old fish, though it is, with its indeterminate number of floors and quite the oddest array of people you could hope to find this side of Scarborough. Go here for a toasted tea cake when you've picked up your pension on a Wednesday morning and you may just like it. If not, you may be buggered. It's the kind of place. I, myself, have only fond memories and nice things to say about it. If you are ill or otherwise destitute, I'm very sorry for you. But perhaps you should have tried harder at school or had the good taste and manners to select a different gene pool from which to inherit. No parking. Closed throughout Lent.

User

Used to really enjoy Jacob's market but I don't think I'll be shopping there again if you continue to sell racist paraphernalia.

User

Serious lack of parking, terrible attitude/customer service and the phone number on the website doesn't get answered.

Having never been here before and not knowing Cardiff very well I tried to call several times to ask about parking but the phone was never answered..not even an answering machine.

I travelled here all the way from West Wales hoping to find a 40th birthday present at one of the military stalls. When I arrived there was no parking available...they did however, have a banner on the side saying "parking available" with a mobile number so I rang it and said I was outside but couldn't park anywhere and the man I spoke to said "not a problem, I'll get you in our car park now", so he appeared after around 30 seconds, but then for the best bit...

They want to charge you £5 for the use of their "car park" regardless of how long you're going to be there for. I said that I wouldn't be long as there were only 2 stalls that I wanted to look at..."sorry, that's the rate", I wasn't prepared to pay this much for an hour (at most) so the man then started to direct me elsewhere but when I said "sorry but I don't know Cardiff" he then said "ah well" and walked away!!!! I was utterly gob smacked and appalled.

This is disgusting as they're just profiting from the serious lack of parking around. I find this disgraceful as customers are coming to spend money but get ripped off before even setting foot inside!!

Needless to say I won't be going back here....and I haven't even been in!!

Selling racist items. Unapologetic of this and completely dismissive of the rightful outrage of people of colour about this.

Selling racist items tends to have a negative impact on the quality of a place

Selling racist 'antiques', and then asking in the comments section if any of the people who are offended are actually black.

Defending selling the racist 'antiques' by comparing it to people selling caricatures of Trump online.

Claiming that they will be conducting 'invisible brain scans' on people when they enter the premises to determine whether they're 'sane' to shop there.

RACIST AVOID!!!! Jacobs market advertised a ‘negro’ money box for sale (their words not mine) on their Facebook page on 26/07/18.

When the public voiced their concern about the racist history and negative stereotypes associated with it, Jacobs market Facebook page and members of its staff proceeded to troll people via the Facebook comments.

Shirley Davies (a staff member /stall owner at Jacobs market) commented asking if anyone who was offended was black?!

Their complete lack of knowledge of the history of this ‘antique’ is shocking given they are an ‘antiques market’, but also their dismissive attitude and response to people voicing their concerns was disgusting.

They have since deleted the post but have not issued an apology which only compounds my impression that they refuse to understand and are not sorry for the offence caused by their posts or subsequent comments.

Mocks people who call them out for selling antique racist goods.

Just the place to buy all your favourite racist memorabilia

Expect a few more low ratings if you try to profit from racist paraphernalia.

Decided to visit Jacobs Market today, having travelled a fair distance from the Midlands to do so. What a hugely massive let down. We parked In their car park and went in. Spent a good hour looking over all the stalls. However on leaving we found our car blocked in and a note under the windscreen wiper with a mobile number to ring to pay for parking. We had seen no reference to this before we parked. Also cones had miraculously appeared at the entrance to the car park that were not there before. To be honest if we had seen this we would not have stopped. We went back in to speak to someone about this to be tersely told by an unkempt, rude and arrogant man at the enquiry desk that there was a sign up and we had to pay. We had no choice as he had blocked our car in and would not move without the £5 parking charge ! Eventually found a sign, a long since faded sign, barely legible and written in felt tip with no reference that this related to Jacobs Market in any way whatsoever. Arrogant man still took the money. He had to go upstairs to fetch the keys to the car to be moved so it may not have been his, a Volvo estate F654 DBO. I say this as when he reversed to let us out he reversed straight into another car, right across the front end. So if you parked there today and found front end damage on returning to your car, here is the culprit and there will be rear/side drivers side damage to the Volvo as he scraped it down the front of your car as I got out of our car and saw he had made contact. I hope he was honest and reported the impact to all involved - if his attitude towards this was the same as towards us I doubt he said a thing. After all the money he took off us for parking never materialised a receipt for the cash. It had better be accounted for. It is clear that we are not the first to have had money extorted from us in this way and from previous reviews the sign is the same one from 2 years ago, just more faded and arrogant attitudes have not improved either. May I suggest some training for those who are customer facing and your inter personal skills also need attention. The outcome from today is NEVER visit Jacobs Market unless you want to be spoken to in such an appalling manner, get your car damaged, and raped financially for parking. After all Welcome to Cardiff - this is all we now have to judge you by and we won't be back

User

Been looking for bedroom furniture for a while, had a good look around today and narrowed it down to a few pieces which we were coming back tomorrow to purchase after checking sizes. Also today we spent over £100. Unfortunately on leaving we were met with a note on the windscreen saying to contact jacobs to pay for parking. We didn't see any reference to this beforehand, in all honesty if we had we wouldn't have stopped by at all. Don't think I've ever had to pay car parking to enter a shop before in their own car park. Anyhow we got out of the vehicle to be approached by a how can i say, maybe less than cheerful member of staff, we said we've seen no signs or anything re parking fees. He said there was a big sign on the gate so we went with him to look, mm, a small white piece of card with £5 written on in felt pen which was 90% washed off and barely legible. He then admitted the sign was hardly readable but still took our £5. Outcome, we will spend the money on furniture which was going to be in the region of £1000 at The Pumping House where the parking is free and you don't have to deal with grumpy old men that generally spoil your day. Anybody visiting Jacobs the parking is £5, you are more likely to see it on my post here than any sign they have at the location :)

They have since deleted the post but have not issued an apology which only compounds my impression that they refuse to understand and are not sorry for the offence caused by their posts or subsequent comments.
