Massive congratulations to Gemma Chesterman for passing her test first time in merthyr today. After all the tantrums and disagreeing with me you finally took your test and passed. I can’t say well done enough you did well

It’s the day of your test, you are sitting in the Test centre, there are three other candidates there waiting for their tests!
You hope you can remember your manoeuvres, how many turns is it on the parallel park?
... Your mind is racing your mouth is dry, what lane is it you go into to go straight ahead at a roundabout.
Your mind is now racing, why did I allow myself to be talked into going out that night I had a lesson, missed 2 hours valuable practice there! Wish I hadn’t cancelled my lesson and gone down the beach with my friends on that Wednesday afternoon, that was another two hours, how many times do you turn the wheel on the parallel park? My heads gone blank!
Too late the door opens, the examiners come in and call names, your name is called, you sign the sheet, the examiner introduces themselves, take you out get you to read a number plate, you can just about do it, how many turns is it for the parallel park? You get into the car, the examiner shuts the door it’s real now, you hardly hear what he is saying, how many turns is it for the parallel park?
Off you go, the next 40 minutes is a blur!
This scenario is played out at Test centres up and down the country every day. Why, because people think it’s ok to miss lessons before their tests!
Your test! Your licence! Your choice, Your Responsibility!

Jenkos are Happy to announce that as of July 1st we will be accepting in car card payments. The plan is to get rid of the use of money and use only card or bank transfer. Although not accepting cash payments is a little off we look forward to accepting card payments within the next week

🚘Just to put people in the picture about the dual controls that instructors have! They are not a magic solution to driving, they don’t control a pupils decision making, their nerves or their fears about other drivers! If you drive too close to a Learner car and the pupil happens to press the brake by mistake or too hard, there is absolutely nothing the instructor can do to override it, other than tell them to come off the brake, if they don’t ...and you go into the back of us it’s because you are too close! We also have a clutch pedal, which if they struggle due to stalling we can help them with, though we would rather not, believe it or not, beeping the horn doesn’t make them pull off any quicker, more likely they will stall again! We don’t have an accelerator pedal, we can’t make them go faster from our side of the car only encourage them verbally! Often approaching a junction you may find they slow down quite early, the reason for this is because they are listening to where we want them to go on the junction and they need more time to think what they have to do to keep us all safe. Multi tasking is difficult for new drivers, please be patient and try and understand what’s happening in the car! With regards instructors having nerves of steel, we don’t, we are ordinary family men and women, trying to help other people’s very nervous children learn to do what you are doing, drive a car!

The time has come for Jenkos to do our standards test. For those who don’t know what this is its to make sure we are doing our job properly.
