PMC is an amazing medium to work with and to be able to incorporate other mediums into it such as natural and lab produced gems, semi-precious stones and dichroic glass. PMC is reclaimed silver in tiny particles which is combined with an organic binder. The organic binder burns away during the firing process and what remains is fine silver which is 99. 9% pure (compared to sterling silver which is 92. 5% pure). These pieces can be hallmarked . 999 to show that they are fine silver. PMC comes in several different forms, lump clay, syringe, paste and sheet. Using the different forms can produce effects using varying techniques.

The pieces I make are hand crafted items. Even if I were to duplicate a piece they would never be identical, so each piece is unique and no piece will ever be totally "perfect". Once fired, each piece is burnished and polished by hand; either a high shine or satin finish can be produced.

I try to create a range of pieces so it becomes a “something for everyone” range, to do this I try varying styles and techniques. I started by making gifts for friends, who cherish them and so custom orders can be designed by working together making a piece for others that will be close to the heart. My inspiration comes from day to day life; I am always on the lookout for shapes and textures that are around me. You would be surprised at some things that can be used!

The chains used are all Sterling silver as are all the findings.

Dichroic glass is something I became fascinated with, probably because it is very shiny. I decided to research and teach myself. After all, I had a kiln, how hard could it be? After trial and error, I realised how accurate I had to be cutting glass and also how careful I had to be, after all it is glass! So after many cuts and having most fingers plastered, I think I sussed it out! I make all the glass cabochons using two techniques; the first is just layering and fusing one type of dichroic glass. The second is multi layers of dichroic glass and this gives much more depth to the jewellery. The hardest part is making earrings and cufflinks, trying to get two vaguely matching dichroic glass cabochons. The leather, suede and satin necklaces are all handmade. The bails on the pendants and drop earrings are silver plated.

Custom fingerprint, hand, foot or paw print jewellery, can be fashioned from PMC to make a personal and unique hand crafted gift. It is a fantastic way to keep a forever memento or keepsake of a loved one, whether they are a son or daughter, husband or wife, mother or father. Any size can be accommodated from new born to adult, which can be put on a charm, pendant or even cufflinks. Initially an imprint is taken in silicon putty. From this a replica is made of the finger and this is used in the PMC. This is then dried and names can be stamped or hand carved into the clay, depending on the size required and the number of letters. Even birthdates and birthstones can be added. The piece in then fired in the kiln and finally given a satin or high polish finish, or even a patina, depending on your requirements.
