Lido Ponty

About Lido Ponty

Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's £6. 3m family attraction

Lido Ponty Description

Lido Ponty, situated in the heart of Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd, has been transformed into a breath-taking 21st Century facility for all the family.

The only one of its kind in South Wales, the £6. 3m premier open air outdoor pool and adventure play park is set to become a major tourist attraction.

Lido Ponty is one of the most iconic open-air lidos in the UK.

Facilities include three heated swimming pools that offers maximum flexibility to accommodate different age groups and facilitate a varied and fun activities programme.

The Waterside Café offers mouth-watering delights all year round. Visitors can enjoy a lovely meal or a quick snack while enjoying fantastic panoramic views right across Lido Ponty and Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.

The opening of Lido Ponty follows a massive restoration project, which resulted in many of the original Lido features, dating back to the 1920s, being incorporated into the brand-new, state-of-the-art facilities.

No trip to Lido Ponty would be complete without popping into the Visitor Centre, complete with its giant screens and interactive boards and games.

Lido Ponty is the perfect place to re-live the past while at the same time making wonderful new memories with all the family, that will last a lifetime.

Admission to Lido Ponty is FREE for 2015.

Well, what can I say! Having spent most of last year trying to get tickets in vain, we managed to get tickets this time! I think the charge for adult tickets stopped the block booking done last year, by people. The forecast was not good for the day, but hey, we waited long enough so a bit of rain was not going to stop us. We arrived a little early, made sure we checked in and had a look around whilst waiting for our time slot. When we went in, we changed in the outside changing rooms, having missed the sign for the indoor heated changing area! I must admit, I had second thoughts as by now, it was actually raining. But, as we had waited so long to get tickets, and we were going to get wet anyway, we quickly made our way to the pool, quick toe dip to ascertain the temperature of the water, and in we went! It was Lovely!!! Not too warm, not too cold. Being out in the open air adds a special feeling to swimming. It also reminded us of holidays abroad. Plenty of space too, a nice bonus is having the lane dedicated to swimming. Lots of life guards too. We showered afterwards using the outdoor hot showers as there were few indoor showers. It all adds to the experience though. Will definitely visit again of we can get tickets. Shame it closes for the winter as I for one, would use it even in colder weather having experienced the excellent facilities. A job well done! Would be willing to pay more, to be honest.

We need two more half way up the Fawr and Fach Valleys as its so popular.

This is a fantastic amenity. Swimming looking up at the hills - wow. I swam here in the 80s. This has kept all the character and is bigger and better.

User

Thank you for a fantastic session, your staff and lifeguards were brilliant, with complete understanding, patience, and helpfulness with my autistic daughter, I would definitely recommend you to other families with children with additional needs

User

My favourite place to be ..... lane swimming every morning. Staff are fun and friendly. They interact with everyone and can't do enough for you.

User

Lovely day out fun for all ages - changing rooms & toilets surprisingly fresh considering the amount of visitors - only downside was that it is cash only in the cafe.

User

Lovely chilled environment although it’s always booked online I have never failed to gain entry at the door. Well done to the staff at the Lido.

User

Love taking my niece and nephew here for a swim. Staff are lovely, place is clean and well kept. On a sunny day it's amazing so relaxing having a swim especially with the view of the mountains. After a swim you can chill by the pool plenty of sun loungers you feel like your abroad it's fab :) highly recommended :)

I went here yesterday for the first time yesterday. I went with my ten year old son and his friend. I can not think of anything negative to say. It was clean, well supervised, good value, plenty of sun beds and generally fantastic. They is one thing I would like to point out though and that is the lifeguards. Wow what a professional bunch of people. Patience personified. Anytime I overheard them interacting with the children in particular they were kind and gentle. My first visit but it won't be my last.

User

Had a fab time here! lucky as we just turned up but both my boys really enjoyed thank you

User

Great way to spend a sunny day. But best to book online and well in advance.

Great day out in RCT! Kids love it and the staff are great!

User

Fantastic family friendly venue

Been here loads of times last summer with friends & family.

Very clean & private changing facilities.

Staff very friendly & helpful

Kids love the activities!

Affordable in fact can’t believe something so great is so cheap & on the doorstep!

Recommend it to anyone!

User

Came for the first time just before it closes for the winter, why haven't I been before???? Was tipping it down but the water is warm and they lifeguards lent my two little boys wetsuits to warm them up. FANTASTIC facilities and all the staff were super friendly. Well done can't wait to come back!

User

Beautiful, clean, good temperature, friendly staff, great location - it would be nice if there were a few more showers in the changing room!

User

We had a great day out at the Lido, pools and facilities were clean, staff were friendly. Only thing I would recommend is having some smaller inflatables as our kids that came were only 5 & 6 and were too scared to go on the big train after we'd paid for the activities.

User

Took my one year old daughter. Lovely setup. Only thing is that the pool was to cold and all the little ones ended up getting out because they were all shivering. Love the fact they cater for people with disabilities in the park and the pool. On a warm day this facility would be perfect for some family fun 👍🏼

User

Loved our visit back in the summer, the only thing that let it down was the lockers, they don't take the new pound coins and there were no signs informing anyone.

My coin got stuck in the locker and we only had new coins on us, when I spoke to a member of staff they were very dismissive and unhelpful.
